Doubt this could be done due to the roof design would need the ground vacating for a considerable time to remove the existing roof. Should have built a new purpose built stadium adjacent and then knocked the current one down but there would be mass hysteria. So they have to cut and make do and spend twice as much extending the current one

Totally agree mate - the stadium really bugs me - the corners. The bowl like effect. The outside. For 200 million which is basically 4 and a bit mangalas we could be playing in something like the standard of some of those amazing ones we have just seen in France .waisted opportunity.

We should build a brand new envelope and roof as per Marseilles wonderful new roof structure, would look amazing and could be done for 50 million.
What about a roof over the roof? I think they have something like that in the San Siro.

The roof configuration will be changed once the North Stand is complete. Look at the plans. for the completed stadium - They are different than what we have now between the south Stand and the East/Bell stands.

Prefer the Etihad with its faults (not that it has many) to the playing surfaces on offer in France.

It's hard to knock down a stadium you don't own, though. You could argue that if we told Manchester City Council that we were terminating our tenancy they would have no option but to sell up but I suspect that when you factor in things like the inevitable contract clause forcing us to pay an exorbitant amount to stop renting, the recent downturn(s) in the market, the lengthy remediation works required on other parts of the land, the loss of car parking space if we were to build one before knocking down the other etc, then your "spend twice as much" comment rapidly spirals to something like "spend 10-12 times the amount".

I agree there's nothing to be ashamed about where the Etihad is concerned, I know we have money but there's no need to become snobs about it, it's not an eyesore like the old toilet, better than Liverpools will look by a mile the emirates looks a little better but they don't have anything like the Etihad campus next to it and never will. I expect they have plans to spruce the place up once the expansion work is done, I can't see them waiting 15 years to do that either as has been suggested, after the North Stand expansion why not?

Don't disagree with anything you said but I feel that none of the obstacles are too big to overcome. I love the Etihad and how it looked, think that the south stand looks all wrong, sure it will be better when the north stand is built but ultimately its all compromised. The issue is that the stadium was built at a cost and never envisaged that it would be expanded. All this talk of replacing the roof never takes into account the logistics of doing so with the design of the roof it becomes very difficult to change. What was achieved with the south stand was truly remarkable, constructing the extension whilst the stadium remained in use

I know there was talk of the CB stand and the east stand being done in a totally different building fabric/finish to what is seen on the north stand and i'm hoping it is something really impressive cause the north stand to me looks worse than Nike's Kit...which brings the discussion around to the east stand being done....wont it need to be done before the collar site starts?

So I'm one of several who has received the relocation letter. It has a lot to do with the stadium development around 126/127 from what I can gather of the letter:

  • Connected hospitality experience to the dressing room.
  • Development of media facilities in the stadium bowl and internal area
The letter said that development will begin in July 2016 and will run over the course of 13 months. I wonder how these developments will look. I was in low 127 before moving to high 126 to avoid the rain, I'm surprised hospitality is earmarked for a soaking experience unless they're thinking of extending the CB roof?

Could we build a new better stadium? Of course, but sometimes we forget that the Etihad is still a very good stadium and it will be great when the new North Stand is built.

I read a few comments from people who went to the Stone Roses gigs and they were saying how they bumped into some scousers who were making their first visit to the stadium and they were going on about how impressive it was.
