With today's deal... the possibilites are now endless for the empty land:

China Media Capital recently entered a joint venture with Warner Bros to develop and produce a slate of Chinese-language films, including global tentpoles, for worldwide distribution. That partnership, Flagship Entertainment Group, will be based in Hong Kong with offices in Beijing and LA. Hong Kong broadcaster TVB has 10% of that CMC-led consortium.

State-backed CMC is also partnered with Oriental DreamWorks and recently set up a fund with IMAX for investment in a minimum of 10 Mandarin-language tentpoles. Last week, CMC announced a joint venture with Merlin Entertainments to create world-class visitor attractions in China including a Legoland park in the Shanghai area and the development of DreamWorks Tours – Kung Fu Panda Adventures. Kung Fu Panda 3 is due for release in China on January 29.

I heard on grapevine the bridge is coming down and being replaced. City have bought a bridge in China, bit like the Americans did in buying what they thought was London Bridge. Going to take it down in China and re-erect it over Alan Turing Way, my mate has just emailed me the photo. Personally I think it looks great!

Just read the same thing. Warner Bros would be an incredible partner for a visitor attraction, probably second only to Disney.

WHO ARE THE INVESTORS?

State-backed China Media Capital was founded by Li Ruigang, an influential Shanghai Communist Party member who has deftly mixed business and politics.

During Xi's state visit to Britain, the Chinese president and the Prince William looked on as Li inked a deal with a British attraction operator to build a new Lego theme park in Shanghai.

Li was present during Xi's visit to the US weeks earlier, when CMC announced a tie-up with Warner Brothers to produce and distribute films.

Aside from his film and entertainment concerns Li splashed $1.3bn last year to win broadcast rights for five years to the Chinese football league, in the latest sign of growing interest in football among China's business elite.

In 2014, Jack Ma, chairman of Internet giant Alibaba, purchased half of Guangzhou Evergrande, the reigning Asian Champions League winners.

Here's another interesting thing about our new board member Li Ruigang:

n 2009, Li founded CMC, an investment fund that attracted capital from the likes of China Development Bank and SMG when he was president of the media giant that controls Shanghai's major television and radio station.

CMC was catapulted into the international limelight in 2012 when it partnered with US entertainment giant DreamWorks Animation to build a 20 billion yuan theme park in Shanghai.

This announcement today could go down as the second most important development in the modern history of the club.

Maybe we can have our own "Alright Wall of China" around the stadium to keep out those pesky rags?
Joking apart I do feel we should circle the complex properly and insist on ticket checks before entry on match days to reduce the current security risk

It doesn't seem that incredulous to think the long sort after 'Leisure partner' might have links to today's news.
It wasn't that long ago City/ADUG were talking to Apollo leisure, but references to Warner Bro's is something utterly light years ahead.
It's going to be an interesting 2016 over at Eastlands Towers...

While the continued speculation continues regarding the collar site and what it could be used for, I noticed this recently while looking through some old stuff on the internet.

It’s to do with the old Mayfield Rail Station site adjacent to Piccadilly Rail Station, which can be no more than about a mile from the Etihad. It was suggested that this site could be developed into a entertainment and exhibition centre, but later plans look like it could be used as apartments and living areas. It looks like it would be developed in line with the new HS2 rail contract when approved, along with upgrading the area around Piccadilly itself.

Quote: Manchester Mayfield

"LCR have formed the Mayfield Partnership with Manchester City Council and Transport for Greater Manchester to deliver the regeneration of the Mayfield quarter, a 24 acre site that will extend Manchester city centre."

Due to its closeness to the Etihad and the input of Manchester City Council, what happens to Mayfield could also impact on our collar site, as obviously the council would not want to duplicate use.

Does anyone know if the development of the Mayfield site has been approved now and what it is to be used for.

Sorry if this has previously been covered.

Can't wait to see the North Stand expansion. But if they do a single tier, they'd also have to "swap" the South and Family stand crowd around surely? A single Dortmund-style tier would be wasted a bit on the family crowd.

I can't see them doing it personally, imagine the nightmare of getting everyone to relocate. If they were going to do a single tier it'd make loads more sense to have done it on the South Stand.

I am also a leve blue mate and I worked at Mayfield pcd in the late seventies with mike McLean's old fella would be nice if it was to become part of our future PS its haunted you know.

Not the best looking building. It used to be hangar that housed Airships, in Krausnick, Germany. But look what they've done with it.

Something similar, Tropical Island, not the building, next to the Etihad, would be a great idea.

Let's be honest, on typical Winter's day and night in Manchester, a bit of the below wouldn't go a miss.

The link to the Tropical Isalnd website is below the pictures.

even so with say a new third tier, we could move the family stand to the top and create another singing section behind the north stand goal
