Who else thinks that the gas towers near the Etihad should be saved? To me, they are part of Manchester's industrial heritage and also Manchester's Skyline.

I photographed Dr Jenna Ashton, she is heading up a project which will see chunks of the gas holders put in MOSI, library archives etc.

If anyone is interested there is an Open Doors construction event at the Coop Live Arena on the 16th of March between 10am an 12noon. There are 18 places still available.

Click on the link below. If you haven’t already registered, you have to register first. Once you‘ve registered you can book a place. Just answer the questions and follow the steps. Once you’ve booked a place you’ll receive a confirmation email.

I went on the Open Doors event last year. Unfortunately we (including the other people) didn’t get the chance to go onsite because of the weather. THB there wasn’t much to see. Hopefully this time we’ll get a tour of the under construction Coop Live Arena?

Would imagine this will be used for pre match entertainment once City is dismantled during the North Stand extention !

Thanks for that Hello City.

I know it’s only an arena and there are much more bigger and more complex buildings around the world, but it always amazes me how architects, engineers and construction companies can get everything to fit to the cm. The roof trusses on to the arena exterior steel frame for example
off topic a little but watched that hotel being upgraded in london ( claridges ) on BBC 2 the construction work was amazing as hotel stayed open the guests obnoxious !!. i think 4 storeis added and then also dug down 5 levels underground anyway the precast windows and frontage was made off site in ireland and shipped over and on fitting nobody had check build was level of which it wasnt oh dear but theres a solution to everything

The really amazing part was the miners creating the columns digging the trenches by hand then, moving the jacks on top of the pillars to support the sub floor whilst monitoring it all with strain gages with the hotel opened and fully occupied above
