Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Yeah we did get it on the cheap. I just think it’s a no brainier for Everton.

They’re never going to break into the elite with Goodison as their ground. A new ground like they’ve planned will take them forward immeasurably. Decent investment further down the line will be easier to entice with the new stadium.
Depends on how they are going to finance it.

Everton safe standing proposal.

That third image would require a major change in the law as it’s a 2:1 ratio of person to seat.

It’s likely a change in the law will only allow a ratio of 1:1 so things will be more like in the middle image.

With all these brand new stadiums happening , I wonder if the owner will want to build a bigger and better one than the Etihad sooner rather than later? We will want to have the best stadium in England and the seemingly enormous cost of expanding the Etihad might not make it viable?
I raised this as an option a few days ago and I too wonder if the owners feel an expansion would be a bit lacking in ambition, and frankly be poor value in return. The lack of action since the last expansion (especially on the collar site), to me suggests they're waiting for the right opportunity (eg death of FFP, safe standing, even a European league etc) to do something spectacular and if we built a 70k+ stadium, it would be full for the big games today.

PS If we do a new stadium, a monorail linking it to Victoria and Piccadilly would be super-cool.

... and a major change in the average UK waistline of a football supporter.

The stand would be built to take the 2:1 ratio into account.

If your terrace doesn’t have the room then you simply wouldn’t be able to do it.

Like I say the law is more likely to be 1:1 if it ever changes anyway.
Is that 2:1 stand built with a lower incline?

I agree. Just commenting on the last graphic. You can actually see that in some places at the Etihad, on level 1, where they have removable seats for concerts, there's a concrete block which comes in handy for me to stand on in order see over the guy in front of me, who is rather tall. I think the space in front of a person would have to be the same as it is now, even with safe standing, because otherwise it would be difficult to leave for a toilet break, but the space to be gained would probably be side-by side, perhaps 4 people can stand in the space of 3 seats?

My understanding is that the South Stand expansion & new front row seats were well less than £100m - for about 7500 seats - Any planned North Stand expansion shouldn't cost much more so not sure why thats not viable (to get to 62,000)

I've seen £80m mentioned as cost of South Stand redevelopment. That was in the tabloids and probably speculative.

yeah thats probably where I saw it too - there's no doubt we got lucky 20 years ago with our stadium, and I for one have always liked it

Maine Road was a great old stadium but it WAS an old stadium not improved at all by the "blind-man" redesigned Platt Lane and Kippax stands....

That last one looks fucking horrific.

Am I the only supporter who thinks that only the left hand arrangement is acceptable. And that double density setup is hideous, I wouldn't pay more than a fiver a game to be subjected to that!!!

If the 3rd 1 was ever implemented at the Etihad, I might have to go back to pIssing on other people’s legs again, like we used to do in the old standing Kippax. Once you were in the middle of the crowd in the singing corner, there was no getting out, and you had to wait for half-time for a piss, or just do it on the spot. :-)

Hot-legs. I heard about that, but it never ever happened to me, or anyone I know.

I do remember getting jammed up though, and physically it was much more tiring than watching football today. You had to constantly keep your position and you'd get moved around by the crowd especially when there was a chance. Hard to see how the surges worked when there were so many crush barriers.
