Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Talk of a Dortmund/Spurs type wall has featured a fair bit on here. That sounds similar.

I came here to post the BBC headline news: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51443421

Government to confirm fast rail line from London to Crewe. Seems just about relevant to this topic. A shame they couldn't build it all the way to Manchester in stage 1. Is this to be welcomed? Occasionally I here people saying that there are better ways to spend money on the railways, for example more rolling stock. I often travel to City on the Sheffield line and loads of times there's only been two carriages on, and no one can get on by the time the train reaches Romily, Bredbury etc.
By the time that railway is up and running we will be in a new stadium, probably build by dippers.

Here's my perfect scenario.

NSL1 is made Safe standing. (I think the club will take the easier and less controversial option of making SSL1 safe standing)

Rename the North Stand the Sergio Agüero stand at the end of next season as a thank you to Sergio.

Expand the Sergio Agüero stand and create a single or double tiered KOP stand holding 20,000 fans, similar to the new Spurs stadium and to Everton's proposed stadium. With a large singing section behind the goal. And invite Sergio back when it opens for the 1st match.

jrb, have you seen the MEN? News on the Great Ancoats Retail Park: https://www.manchestereveningnews.c...s/revealed-plans-turn-central-retail-17731837 and some old general news about decline in new construction starts: https://www.manchestereveningnews.c...s/manchesters-building-boom-hit-peak-17690512T

How's the Manchester crane count looking?

Is this a pause, or a downturn? City centre construction has been very cyclical in the past.

Ancoats Retail Park. There's a thread about it on SSC Manchester. All the info is there along with views and opinions from the forum members.

Don't believe the doom and gloom merchants.

Manchester has still got 70 cranes on it's skyline. Via the MCR-SCC Crane thread which is updated on a regular basis. The record number of cranes was 82. That figure was reached last July. There has been a slight drop in cranes. However, much of that drop is down to timing and the completion of developments. Not sure Manchester will beat that 82 crane figure again in my lifetime. There are plenty of new proposals that are waiting to start and will start this year. That includes more towers. There's a long way to go yet before development and the number of cranes in Manchester starts to decline significantly.

If they move the singing section to the North Stand where will the away fans be?

But as before, existing City fans would snap up those £20 safe standing seats first. The club will offer those £20 safe standing seats to existing season ticket holdersfirst. Just like they did with the £299 SSL3 season tickets.

And if City offered those safe standing seats out to new City fans, there's absolutely no guarantee they would be singers.

And a large % of current Season ticket holders would complain about missing out on those safestanding seats at the expense of new City fans.

TBH it's a f***ing nightmare for the club.

How does the club fill a 500 safe standing section with City fans who want to sing?

Here's 1 ideaof many.

I doubt very much the club will consider it.

Once a new safe standing is confirmed at the Etihad, the club via the OS starts taking names and season card details of fans who want to sing, support the team, and want to move into a 'new and dedicated singing section'. No block location or prices are revealed until 500 seats and places have been secured. Then details are released. Then those 500 fans have a 1st option to secure their place or to change their minds. Those on any waiting list can be offered any seats that become available.

United have something this week don’t they with Trafford council

Yes.

United are applying for up to install up to 1,500 seats in the north-east quadrant corner between the North stand and the K-Stand. A bit like Celtic have done at Celtic Park.

If we did something similar on level 1, it could be as wide as blocks 110/111/the away section/114/115.

Ideally I rather City made the whole of the NSL1 safe standing.

Obviously that would mean moving the Family stand, which exists only in name now, as it's open to anyone, to another part of the stadium.

Whether City are prepared to do that is questionable.

But City have to find some way of accommodating safe standing. And make it large enough for it to have an impact and to improve the atmosphere at the Etihad.

Would be timely for the club to give the fans an update regarding the NS expansion (given LFC are starting work by the end of the year).

They won't be going anywhere. They will be staying there. Perfect location for the away fans and the away coach park. No need for the away fans to walk around the stadium and mix with City fans.

Yes, there seems to be a lot building up, and a lot being held back until the time is right to make public announcements.

No, a percentage of the away support has to be pitch side now.

United and Newcastle have special dispensation to keep away fans where they currently are.
