Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Talk about Project Fear, saying the city will turn to tumbleweed! Manchester is one of the fastest growing cities in Europe. There is plenty of scope for a new arena with world-class facilities, especially if it's designed in a way to cater for smaller events as well. Public transport links definitely need improving though.

I mean hes obviously got a vested interest but if it's true that their can only be 1 and the Eastlands arena will have to charge a fortune to make their money back then why is he worried? They've got geographical advantage, historical advantage/brand recognition and wont need to charge as much, seems obvious theyd come out on top.

Exactly. The G-Mex adapted and is still prospering after the Arena was built. Looking at the plans, the new arena will be a 10 minute walk from the NQ. To suggest none of these people will go into the city centre for a meal/drink pre/post event is nonsense.

What are the benefits to Manchester City in a concert venue on 'site'?

We're building it, we're paying for it.

The money coming back will be ours (I'm sure the council will get their piece)

I have been told possibly a few NBA games coming to Manchester in years to come.

It's a licence to print money. Should be some good title parties to come there.

We’ll probably have City branded sports teams playing there in a few years similar to the Barca set up.

They’ll likely be new food and drink outlets around the stadium/arena for people to go to before and after events as part of the campus development.

Not sure where that £300 million pound quote is coming from...but that's a pretty big sum for an arena (pretty big sum for any building - the new Factory Theatre comes in at just over £100 million). This will be some show piece if comes together as quoted here.

When you say 'we' , do you mean City? If so, the income will count for FFP purposes won't it?
