Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

E-mail from Co-op Live:

We’re pleased to share with you that we’re starting our early site preparation works for Co-op Live this week, as we begin to bring this exciting new venue to life.

Our teams of builders and engineers will be starting enabling works to prepare our site on the Etihad Campus this week – with initial works taking place during the working day from 7:30am until no later than 6pm on Monday to Friday.

We know how important it is to work closely with local residents and the community around us – so we’ll be here every step of the way to make sure you stay informed of all the latest news and progress.

So make sure you’re following us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to stay up to date with the latest news and important updates on Co-op Live.
Hope you don’t mind me asking, when did they send that to you? Was it this Week? Thanks.

We should be working hard on upgrading and expanding the Etihad now!.

Promising signs on vaccines and life could be getting back to some sort of normality this time next year.

Perfect time to get the stadium finished and the exterior looking far better than at this time.

I think there’s the worry that not everyone will go back so clubs are putting redevelopment on hold. Liverpool already delayed there’s since announcing plans. Also possible it’ll be too awkward to be building an arena and a new stand on the same site at the same time.

Yes, but on match days there were cars parked on there. It even says Car Park on that patch of land on Google maps and there's a sign on the entrance gate saying 'Car Park' so it's probably used as a car park, even if only occasionally.

No idea about any BMX track.

Here you go ...

Might only be a third of the patch of land on this map but it's within the footprint of the new arena as per the visuals I've seen.

Looks like your right about it being a car park but I am fairly sure it did not use to be a few years ago when me and my dad use to park on the car park near the Gas holders now we park on what was going to be the super casino

I have on occasion been back to the other car park on match day and never noticed any cars on the proposed site but I am sure I am wrong based on your post

Still either way shouldnt be an issue given the numbers planning and previous lack of parking there

do wonder what happens when the whole site is developed as planned

Yesterday about an hour before I posted mate.

Agree with those that say we should be working on the stadium exterior, although I still don't agree we should be expanding. It's annoying that there seems to be no intent to improve the exterior of the stadium, it's awful

They've started work anyway - just had a jog past. Great big orange digger thing and other stuff. Was too dark for a pic but will have a jog past again friday or sat day time and get pics if I'm not living up the lazy lockdown slob life too much :-)

They started work on the site in August

Ok, well let's just say that going from one bloke strolling about and pissing in the bushes for half an hour every other week that they've suddenly upped the work-rate considerably.

Not the best pic on my old samsung phone and I won't pollute this thread with daily pic updates or anything but I took this one of the work starting/increasing considerably on my jog this morning:

Hey Jrb. Haven't been on this thread since the pandemic kicked in. Also haven't put my head in SSC this year.
What's the current vibe about development in Manchester at the moment (taking this horrid pandemic into account)?
Stuff on hold? New towers planned?

Hope all is well mate...

Stadium expansion worries me. I always think of football clubs like Sunderland who have increased the capacity of the stadium when times were good without thinking about the long term. It sometimes seems like there is a competition for clubs to have the nicest ground with the highest capacity. Is this sort of thing really important to our supporters?

It's really important to the ones who can't get in (Covid aside).

And anyone who doesn't understand that our owner only looks long term hasn't been paying attention.

Hope the MODS don’t mind me replying to Somapop?

I am, thanks.

Same to you and every other poster on BM.

Development has definitely slowed, but there‘s still plenty under construction and being proposed.

Manchester‘s property and construction sector has been pretty resilient during the on-going COVID pandemic. Perhaps that’s a testament to the city.

The last crane count in October complied by Trident Rider on SSC-MCR showed Manchester down to 35 cranes from a high of 82 cranes last June.

However, there are a few large developments that have recently started or are due to start next year that will increase the crane count.

There are 4 towers currently onsite. Elizabeth tower-52 stories-Renaker, the Blade-52 stories-Renaker, Greengate Park tower-50 stories-Renaker(hail Renake!), Viadux-40 stories-Salboy(Fred Done). There are plenty of midrise and lowrise aprtment blocks under construction and proposed.

As expected Office development has slowed considerably due to the COVID pandemic. 4 Angel Square-200,000 st ft-NOMA, is onsite, and 4 New Bailey-235,000 sq ft-New Bailey, will start early next year. There are other office proposals that are due to start or have just been given planning permission.

Still plenty of Hotels under construction and proposed. The Hotel chains and developers seem to be pushing ahead with their proposals. One Hotel to watch out for is the Pestana Hotel-CR7(Ronaldo), proposal. It’s absolutely stunning. One of the best looking proposals I have ever seen for Manchester. It would grace London, Paris, New York, Barcelona, etc.

The large mixed used proposals are moving ahead. Circle Square looks superb, and is well on the way to completion. St John’s/Enterprise City is well under construction. Mayfield is moving very slowly.

Leisure. That will be very busy over the coming years. Factory-cultural space, is well under construction. The East Manchester Arena. The redevelopment of the AO Arena. The proposed Therme Spa resort at Trafford City.

Of interest.

St Michaels’s tower-40 stories(Gary. Neville & Co) is moving ahead behind the scenes. Plenty of amended planning applications and decision notices recently. Hopefully we will finally see a start on it next year?

Popped up on the Trafford planning portal. Early day’s. No concrete info yet. A modern surf/wave pool attraction, Barton Dock Road, Trafford Park. At a guess, similar to the one proposed in Southport. It will be located across the road from the Therme Resort. Looks like Peel are going all out to create a water themed resort/area next to the Trafford Centre. Ian Brown. ’Manchester has everything except a beach’. It will have one soon.

If anyone wants to keep up with what’s going on in Manchester regarding construction and property development, go to Skyscrapercity-Manchester.

Pictures of the Eastlands Arena under construction will be added to the thread starting after the current lockdown ends on the 2nd of December. (can’t get close to the site atm)

Another ‘main stand’ expansion. Clubs maximising profits. I’m sure the Leicester fans would have rather had a large KOP(spit) style stand behind one of the goals, if possible?

Too OTT for me. Looks like a football stand you would see in the Middle East.

Thanks for all that mate - I’m up to date now.
Heard the blade was going ahead (cylinder next?) which is good news.
Don’t recall the greengate one off the top of my head but I suspect it’s one I saw last year.
Any rumblings on Trinity?

thanks jrb.

Will you be getting your step ladders and camera out for the arena build? Used to love your updates on the academy build especially.
