Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

The rest of Europe? I can name countries that have next to little public transport. Granted, it could be improved in Manchester.
I have travelled on trains across Europe including Scandanavia, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Belgium, Holland, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland for a start. It was cheaper and faster than this country everywhere I went, especially in urban areas. London is the only city in the UK with adequate public transport. The transport infrastructure in North West England is a disgrace. No doubt there are worse places for transport than the UK but not very many.

Yep local workers desperate for work, but the Etihad s right near by. As a said a lot of the jobs taken up at the ground are by agency workers who are not from the area.

Yes some people might get jobs. But in terms of actually living there - I would not want two stadiums and all the traffic that comes with it.

I think that the vast majority of people who live on the housing estates near the ground wont see much benefit from it. Probably get pushed out if anything.

Some of the suggestions on here - a shopping centre and a hotel- do we really need them??? Loads of hotels and shops not even ten minutes away already

I would be happy with as much stuff as possible in & around the site, if I lived there.

Re the 'staff' at the Arena, there are people who work on the bars etc, but there are also people who work on the gig itself. There is a crew comes with the event, then there is a local crew, most of whom come from Manchester & have to wait & hope to be asked, to work on such events & can go for weeks between jobs, whilst still having to pay their bills.

A new venue could double the earnings of some of these people.

That's down to lack of invest from successive Governments.

Don't forget, New Labour tried to cancel Metrolink.

If it wasn"t for our city council, Manchester Businesses, the People of Manchester, and a save the Metrolink campaign run by the MEN, New Labour would have cancelled Metrolink.

Let me put into perspective how pathetic our Government's are, regardless of which political party is in power.

The Metrolink line between between Piccadilly Station and the Commonwealth Games stadium should have been ready and up and running for the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games. It wasn"t ready and running until 2012. 10 years later!

Regardless of it faults, Metrolink is one of the best Tram networks in this country and in Europe.

I live in an apartment nearby, it will be fantastic for the area.

Hotel next to the new arena and Etihad an absolute no brainer

I’m keen for @Manc in London to name all the countries he was referring to, cos I was about to post a response similar to yours...

I reckon the arena would be just the start of the transformation of the collar site and the wider campus. Would love to see a cross between Belle Vue and Caesars Palace, a huge indoor entertainment complex with a casino, amusement arcades, restaurants, bars, fairground rides and hotels. Achieving the 365 day attraction desired by City.
It could be themed around sport and Manchester music as well as another thing Manchester is famous for being first with.... Computers, what about EA World or even iworld?

Agree with all your points except the last sentence. Successive goverments of all political colours have totally neglected transport infrastructure outside London. Scotland, Wales, and most of South West England have been treated even worse than the North West. More than 60 million people live outside London and we have been taken for a ride!
