Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

In the MUEN.(nothing we didn't already know)

States 1100 seats are being removed.

Picked up by the Daily United.

The reader comments in the Daily United are predictable. Full of Emptyhad comments from Rags and Coach Wreckers.
It is a problem though in terms of losing 1100 seats. That’s 1100 fans evicted from possibly their usual spot for more commercialism that we don’t need. Some won’t come back or renew, more families and generations lost because they’re not the clubs target market anymore. I see they’re offering to move them to another section of the ground for the same price they’ve been paying but it won’t be the same for them. I get we need to be sustainable but more advertising boards instead of fans isn't the way. It’s just the sad state of affairs in modern football.

CFG are not short on ambition. The Campus and mini Etihad showed vision, not least by reclaiming contaminated land adjacent to the stadium rather than the usual practice of moving to a green field site.

Expansion of the Etihad South Stand to increase capacity appeared to be a template for the North Stand with cheerleaders like me saying build it and they will come and naysayers claiming it is not needed as will not be filled.

I now think both sides are wrong. The stadium and surrounding area may appear run down but major transformation is under way with the new arena as the trigger to attract visitors to the collar site on a daily basis.

10 years of success with more to come, has established Manchester City as one of the elite football clubs in the world. No worries about attracting supporters as we have already captured a global set of new fans. The same in Manchester and the UK with kids only remembering the good times, with City as a top club.

Success brings its own rewards. City has always been a big club by any measure but financially we have become a monster. No doubt in my mind that the plans for the Etihad stadium and collar site are way beyond my comprehension to see City see revenues go up to another level.

Much revolves around the outcome after Covid and the Arena but I can envisage a spectacular stadium upgrade and total revamp of the City Store/Square area to include other areas like Joe Mercer Way. A Box Park indoor style event area, with drink and food courts, becomes a reality. Hospitality to include markets and hotels? Exhibitions and conferences? It is all about a longer term view. ADUG spoke of a 20 year plan when they took over City. We are just over halfway through.

Pure speculation but our owners are not in it to be second best in any respect.
Don't get duped by people with power or money.

I sort of agree, then again they are seats thst have only been there for about 3 years and everyone complained when they were put in because the view was crap. Think they are the same seats blocked for European games. Hopefully we'll get either safe standing, or expansion to replace them soonish.

It'll be the same people now complaining that they're being removed.

I think the pandemic has set the safe standing section back a year or two unfortunately and nobody is quite sure where to put it

We'll probably expand the North Stand to 60,000 soon, so that'll make up for it. It's not ideal, granted, but that should meet current demand.

Depends if fans are consulted on the proposal, I really hope it’s like the Spurs or Dortmund one because we know that tiers are poor for singing acoustics
I thought there was a consultation where season ticket holders were shown various options and asked to vote?
