Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

The other sensible alternative is to follow the likes of Bordeaux and close the centre of the City to cars - you can’t get anywhere by car so leave the immediate City centre to pedestrians, bikes and trams. Politically difficult and a tough decision but see pictures of Bordeaux City centre 20 years ago and then now and it’s a way better place. No parked cars everywhere, pollution has dropped like a stone and people can move around. The big issue would be how large do you make the pedestrian zone? And convincing people to park up on the outskirts and walk the last 10 or 15 mins -which in many cases would speed up the journey.
Cars should be banned already, but trams and people don’t mix too well either in those mixed use places.

One of the issues in recent years is how they now terminate buses at the earliest entry point to the city which for me is Shudehill. That’s still quite a walk to Piccadilly if I’m going south of Manchester and not easy (or nice through the Gardens) if you’re dragging luggage especially when returning home at night. I used to be able to get right onto Piccadilly Approach by bus.

The constant issues with the tram in the city centre and having no alternative route is ridiculous as currently you can’t even use the tram from Shudehill (at an extra cost too) and with luggage is ill-advised even when operating.

You could ban cars and re-introduce buses crossing the centre like before but it only moves the congestion to the pinch points further out, where bus services again get delayed in snarled up traffic.

The development of the main stand to include filling in the corners and also loads more VIP hospitality would seem the logical next step for the ground. The additional seats in the corners can always be kept for match day and cater for standard tourists but the introduction of more top class VIP (take a look at the fulham stand) will create huge revenues for the club and hopefully also keep standard season tickets low

The roof is looking a bit tired and in the upcoming years will need some upgrade as it'll be close to 30 years old and we know the spirals and outside is not up to modern day standards. We have the blueprint for extending out and up as per North and South stands so we are very much talking about the art of the possible. This also fits in with our ethos of one stage at a time and see the results, still that said it would be good if the club was already thinking along the lines of improving this stand

Doubt that anything major will be done for at least 10 years The E&W expansion, akin to the other two, will be far more challenging as the height is already up to the same as N&S stands Maybe they could find a way to flatten the top curve but, would it be worth the cost?

E&W stand renewals won’t be about capacity. They’ll add a bit it’ll be more about an upgrade of facilities. Could see an East Stand incorporating a hotel and or a conference venue.

Depends what they’re doing.

You could argue they’ve already done a lot of the other stuff with tunnel club and all the other new premium seat offerings including Joes and 93:20. Almost all of the 2nd tier is premium seating of some sort on the sides.

Any major construction work will absolutely include & be about capacity with any further hotel or the like being separate from the stadium on the collar site.

More likely to be the collar site Yeah would agree they badly need and up grade the L3 concourse is too narrow and not a lot they can do without structural changes and as the at the upper price point for GA then it is lacking

Just on way back from Prague. Amazing transport system with underground, trams and buses. Well cheap - £1.40 anywhere for 90 mins. Half that if over 60 and free if over 65 (I'll be back in a few years).

They also have these Trolleybuses which use the tram lines in the city, then take off like fck when they hit the open road. Well cool.

Someone from GMT should come out here to check it all out.

Yes maybe get the east and west suspension roofs separated first, then build something like that on the east sttand

No chance! They'd have a few days on the piss and come back to say "not feasible"
