Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

I was referring to the occasions in the cup when we have handed over the entire stand , those fans had no issue creating an atmosphere in there

Fair enough.

But so do 1700 fans when they are in the top tier of SS level 3.

When 3000 away fans fill the away end, they create an atmosphere. Especially when the 3rd tier of the away end is full.

My point is, when you have 100's and 1000's of fans who want to sing, no matter where you put them in a stadium, they will always create an atmosphere.

Hence why we need a proper and dedicated singing section, where 1-2 blocks, roughly 500-1000 fans can sing and create an atmosphere together.
Spreading 3000 over 3 tiers stunts that too, the best noise away fans create is when they have the full SS3, especially if they have 2 as well.

As I've said in other threads, we should have created it up in SS3 where the atmosphere can be very good because of the proximity of the roof, but even if we had, it falls down for every domestic cup game.

Anyway this isn't really the thread for this discussion.

I think a lot of like minded fans would move to a larger 2 or single tiered end. It’s easier. At the moment moving to the South Stand is difficult because of the take up, I really hope the club get the North Stand development right. Designating as an end for atmosphere and Home fans will inspire people to relocate. Hopefully

Up to date aerial shot of Spurs new stadium.

Look at the size of their new single tier behind one goal.

Away fans don' seem to struggle to make a noise in that stand when it has been handed over in full for previous cup games , we have the wrong type of match going fans to make an atmosphere, not the wrong type of stadium.
We have the wrong type of football. I sit there quietly watching in awe with what I am seeing on the pitch. In the 90's I used to get pissed and sing the whole game to make what was going on the pitch more interesting. Blame Pep why it's so quiet not the ground or the fans.

Funnily enough I thought this after the Newcastle game. The better atmospheres tend to be when the opposition tries to do something. The Geordies tactics were awful and we’re having to endure that every week lately

Looking at that new spurs stadium makes me wish we built a new stadium. You just know it would have been the best stadium in the world, our owners wouldn’t want anything less. Pretty sure it’s been discussed on here before and a new stadium was considered but it wasn’t possible.

Weren't our owners thinking of building a new stadium where the training campus is and then building the campus on the current stadium site ?
Not sure why this didn't happen, seemed like a perfect opportunity to have best of both without moving any games.

Only thing missing for us is a state of the art stadium. Can't imaging we'll be standing still on this issue for much longer.

Think its the lower tier thats the problem being below ground level any change would need to be built up from the bottom reqiuiring closure, where a bigger second tier can be built behind like the south stand was.
Sure somebody that knows about engineering a stand will be along to put me right though.
Similar to the expanded stand at 'Pool. They built it at the back then incorporated into the existing stand.increase fromm 44,500 to about 53,200.

This was the Allianz before the fancy clad went on. That's Spurs end is imposing..

In a nut shell - City lease the present stadium from the City council - which is a good long term revenue stream for the council. If we wanted to knock down the stadium we’d have to buy it - but we’d have to buy it from Sport England -Newhouse paid for it - hence the City Council would lose their revenue stream. Hence it got complicated. Think the plan was to build on the North Car Park - so that remains an option.

The only downside to Spurs new stadium is the cost. Now close to £1bill. It will take Spurs years to pay it all off. That will have an effect on their transfers, as it did with Arsenal.

Hate to say it, but Spurs new stadium is going to look the dogs bollox..

Without a doubt. That huge tier behind the goal will be epic. And they have moved to Wembley so can re-seat people appropriately to ensure it has a bunch of people keen to sing and shout in it.

Our issue was largely that we went from a vocal and imposing side stand at Maine Road and now it is the South Stand that is our more vocal end but despite best efforts of the club there are too many separate areas of singers. Logically most will move straight into that Spurs tier where many at City have not moved as they are comfortable in their current seating now so I struggle to see how we will address the issue unless we introduce safe standing.

Almost right.

The stadium is on a (very) long lease from the City of Manchester. To demolish it, City would have to buy it from the Council and they in turn would have to repay the grant from Sports England. City have sunk quite a lot of money into the Stadium including the initial rebuild after the Games and the later expansion of the South Stand. Added to the remaining 130 years or so left on the lease, it all makes it economically unviable to build from scratch.

It is perfectly feasible to expand the North, East and West Stands to get an 80,000 plus stadium if the demand is there.

To be honest I'm not sure there'd be any need to rebuild from scratch when you consider what Real Madrid are doing to the Bernebeu, you can make a stadium look/feel absolutely brand new without a rebuild. If Mansour feels like the Etihad isn't enough of a showpiece, particularly after some bolted on North, East and Colin Bell Stand extensions, they could renovate it to be whatever they want within reason.
