Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Rumour came from me and it’s definitely happening just not sure of the date’s although the way city are performing on my eliminate it’ll be the next century.
Not sure if the location exactly but City have purchased an old bank near the current training ground to continue the training ground expansion for academy players .
Laing O’rourke will be one of the main contractors who will be doing major projects on the Mercedes site .
I’ll update as I get to know more .
I’m trying to tap up my mate, who works for Laing O’Rourke but it’s Top Secret

That’s a good question.

Bolton Stadium Hotel (currently Bolton Whites Hotel) features 125 guest rooms, including 19 guest rooms offering impressive panoramic pitch-side views, a bar and restaurant serving traditional British cuisine.

I stayed at the Bolton Hotel for two nights either side of their match with City back in 2004.

Great view and experience sitting on the sofa, drinking beer (hidden from view!) while watching the game with the family. Tried to do it again the following year but Bolton had turned the room into a Corporate entertaining facility.

Would love to see something similar at City.

That’s in the home end behind the goal, the White wall or whatever the spuds call it, I sat in there for the Joshua v Usyk fight last year, it is as the pictures show, in fact it’s more impressive, they have all the brewery equipment on show, the concourse is mahoosive, but like you say the service wasn’t great and they ran out of everything except neck oil, missus was gagging drinking it :)

Thanks for clarifying.

I do wonder if they pay more to be placed in that end. Where my missus sits (bottom tier - 2 o'clock if you were sat on the bench) is nowhere near as impressive. Lots of space though.

I don't like the idea of a Bolt-on hotel.

Always presumed any connection between the ground and a proposed hotel would be like the one connecting the raddison at the airport rather than actually built into a stand or half the hotel would be missing windows/facing a concourse

The only thing he would give up was 8,000 seats, museum, plaza & hotel, but no photos or indication of whether the hotel was part of the stand. His description - WOW!

Thanks.

A few on here have gestimated 8000 extra seats that would take the Etihad to 61,400.

A hotel and museum won’t fit on the land between an expanded NS and Joe Mercer way, so they’ll probably be located on the Collar site.

A plaza (which I mentioned yesterday), would mean the redevelopment of City Square, the souvenier store might go, along with the current bars and restaurants.

Any info on the souvenier store?

@jrb & @Stockton Heath Blue I agree with JRB that the best place for a new development of what you have quoted is the old site for the Manchester Super Casino

@jrb is there any plans of this anywhere

No. The Super Casino was never taken forward. It was voted down by the House of Lords even though the House of Commons voted for it. It was utterly farcical. Both Houses weren’t full of MPs and Lords during the debates. In the House of Lords some of the Lords were fast asleep during the debate. Before the debates and votes, Blackpool the favourites for the Super Casino, having missed out on it, launched a bitter campaign trying to get the decision reversed, but all it did was kill the Super Casino for Blackpool and Manchester. At the time I was f*cking fuming. In hindsight it was the right thing. That said, the Collar site still remains undeveloped to this day.

The New Labour government had initiated a bidding competition following its Gambling Act in 2005 and the favourites to get the UK’s first destination casino were Blackpool, the Millenium Dome in London and East Manchester.

In January 2007 Blackpool hearts were broken when the Casino Advisory Panel recommended that the Manchester location should be used as that part of the North West had a great regeneration need.

A campaign was launched to get the decision changed and a petition of 11,514 delivered to Number 10, but year later and the new Prime Minister Gordon Brown, finally killed off any hopes by ditching the Super Casino plans for the UK.

Thanks, @jrb I was looking to see what size the buildings etc whereas it would give us a better idea of what could be done on that part of the site, using SSC knowledge look at Electric Boulevard at Battersea, that would be a good shout for there as its shops and business at the bottom and other business with a hotel and apartments and offices above. From the old photos of the casino it looks a big site.

Sounds very exciting and confirms the fact that the NS will not mirror the South Stand so boosts hopes it will be an extended second tier. Can't wait to see plans. The fact contractors are on board makes me think they'll look to submit an application shortly, hopefully during the WC break so we have some City news to get excited about and the club can keep the headlines!
