Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Sounds new to me sounds some what underwhelming in the sense that’s it’s not like the tourist stuff we where wanting but maybe that comes in time or other areas.scale of what you mention sounds good depends on the scale I mean the strip of land you mention is big but not that big not clear where the rest will be could be all over from what you say so not sure how that’s incorporated into the campus from what you say. The scale of that sounds impressive
Underwhelming or not, having a commercial aspect makes sound business sense as it drives a more consistent revenue stream. Would be great to see an addition to the tech/digital centred thinking we've seen with Circle Square.

Nice chat with someone that knows yesterday, and its probably not new news really but i’ll share anyway

The north stand expansion and eateries/bar (new city square) linking to the arena is only the start of a 9 year plan.
Next faze is to develop all the land at the back of joe mercer way, including the land where the gas thing is. The intention is to have a commercial area that will house all the top advertising, design, architects, legal companies of the north. A proper intellectual hub. Working title of that area is The North. Be hotels etc too. A small Town within manchester is the aim.
Every bit of land is going to be bought up that comes available
Development at the Oval Cricket Ground.

I think it depends. I bowe to the clubs superior knowledge. However it’s not like more tourist type things do not deliver consistent revenue. e.g Trafford Centre, Disney land etc etc

Not really. Hes very much on the inside but i dont put him in too much of an awkward situation and just let him tell me what he wants to tell me

Just really that there is no limit to what can be achieved with the collar site.

Another thing, all bars in the stadium will eventually be upgraded to match the one in the south stand
The big open bar ?

was told by a friend working on this that the walls are crumbling due to the water collecting on the top of the building.

Walls need replacing and a real problem for the planned opening.
Staggering that they have built a multi million pound building in the Rainy City and not accounted for water gathering

I believe this is just Chinese whispers. Its highly unlikely given the design and planning of a building of this scale these days.

Can't see him lying about it, as its him changing his job to work on this site. (currently working on the massive transport hub redevelopment in Stockport)

Starting this contract in a few weeks so soon see if he's lying or not.

I didn't mean he was lying, just stories get changed as they get told sometimes. What im trying to say is that having been involved in the construction of numerous large buildings over the past 30 years, albeit at the very early stages of foundation design. I have a good idea of the level of work and detail that goes into these projects , and to have to rebuild walls or whatever due to water ingress would be a massive failing in the design and construction process. I'm not saying these sorts of things don't happen but they are extremely rare.

Peel Holdings are doing a great job regards leisure offering at Trafford City. On top of Therme Manchester, Inland Surf, which is now going forward with Tartan Leisure, there are now proposing an Ice rink Peel certainly have squeezed any leisure proposal planned for the Collar site.

A three-acre site next to Chill Factore and iFLY is to be redeveloped by ICITIES, providing another boost the area’s growing leisure offer.

ICITIES’ TraffordCity ice arena – which will be operated by Planet Ice following the signing of a pre-let – will be constructed close to two other major leisure attractions due to come forward over the next couple of years – the £250m Therme wellbeing resort and Tartan Leisure’s inland surf park.

Europe's biggest indoor climbing wall is opening in Wythenshawe.

Yorkshire Climbing Company, which operates Depot Climbing at Trafford Park, has taken almost 51,000 sq ft at Southmoor Industrial Estate and plans to invest £5m, creating its second Greater Manchester venue.

The Wythenshawe facility will boast what is being billed as Europe’s largest indoor climbing wall.

It's never going to open on time in April this year anyway! Talking to a workman the other day and he said there miles behind on it due to problems getting materials through from Europe, discussion on working throught the night have already taken place !
