Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

AC Milan's Ultras at the San Siro sit up high at one end and make their racket and create their tifos from up high. Sometimes their tifos start up top with flags so big they actually drop down to the bottom tier. It would be good to get all the singers up in this third tier.

MANCHESTER City FC today began a public consultation process on its plans to increase capacity at the Etihad Stadium from 48,000 to more than 60,000.

The project, which entails the expansion of first the South Stand and then the North, will see capacity rise first to 54,000 and then to 60,000 as a third tier of seating is added. If all goes to plan, phase one will be completed by the summer of 2015.

Maintaining its commitment to support local suppliers and employ local people, the club said the expansion will create 160 construction and 110 match day jobs in each phase.

The project, costing "tens of millions" according to head of infrastructure Pete Bradshaw will take investment in infrastructure around the stadium to an estimated £200m since the 2008 takeover by Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Mansour.
After the results of the consultation with fans and local residents, the club will submit a planning application to Manchester City Council in December.

This will include the option for the North Stand expansion too. Should approval be granted construction work will being in April 2014, Mr Bradshaw said at a briefing.

The club has opened an exhibition area for fans and residents to visit located behind the stadium's North stand.

This proposed expansion of the stadium will allow the club to introduce a new season ticket for £299, and to double its hospitality offer too, from 2,500 corporate seats to 5,000.

Mr Pete Bradshaw, Head of Infrastructure & Corporate Responsibility; said: “Manchester City Football Club strives to provide its supporters and visiting fans with one of the best possible matchday experiences in the Premier League and European football.

"Games are selling out frequently prior to going on open sale and there is rising demand from supporters for more season tickets, matchday tickets and premium seating.

"This is why we are considering these expansion proposals. We will be in touch with every fan who would be potentially affected by the changes in phase 1, and we encourage fans, residents and anyone who has a point of view, to visit the exhibition in person or online and tell us what they think.”

He said the construction work would not impact fans in the two stands affected.

Seeing how quickly construction has progressed on the training facility I can see the work easily being completed over a close of season. Certainly in regard to the South stand expansion. If the North stand is expanded in exactly the same way (as in the exterior doesn't contain more facilities or link to any of the wider development) then again it will be possible to construct over the end of season with little disruption I would have thought.

Thinking out loud.

If the club want to double the size of the corp offering on level 2, would they be able to do this if the away fans stay where they are now?

Surely the club would need those 1250 level 2 away seats for City fans.

That's an interesting point, hospitality will be a key to this expansion as increasing match day revenue will be the priority for the club. It will also help balance the cheaper season tickets they provide. I am trying to imagine how they would work it with the away fans. There would have to either be a lip above them or indeed the away fans will have to move. In my opinion they should go to east stand level 3 and definitely not move into the new third tier. That should be solely for City fans to improve atmosphere.

I was thinking this, pretty sure they will move the away fans.

Whether this is to the new cheap seats, or the more expensive East Stand seats will have to be seen.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

There are 3 different options for away fans, just been in the unit to have a look it is very impressive

The club wont move them into cheaper seats and then charge City fans the standard South stand prices. It will be an expanded South stand to provide cheaper season tickets to City fans. That fact wont change no matter where the away fans are located. I am not sure how it will work in terms of atmosphere, it is nice to have the back and forth and putting them up on the third tier may lose part of that. Again, I wouldnt want them at the top of the new 3rd tier because I feel that it would be good to have that full of City fans and make the most of the new roof to increase the noise. I would prefer to keep them where they are but if that affects hospitality move them up to 3rd tier. Always good to have the stands behind the goal just for the home side considering the other end is the family stand.
