If Wee Jimmy Sturgeon and the Nats are wanting to stay in, I find it a very good reason for coming out!
Of course this is not a problem to the big state, bureaucracy loving, referendum hating types who often work for the big state and its bureaucracies, and have a low opinion of the views of the broad mass of the people.
.
Labour has performed a major u-turn and dropped its opposition to an in/out referendum on EU membership, the party's acting leader Harriet Harman has said. Why is this ?
I prefer out but will save my decision for the upcoming debate to listen to the arguments from both sides
Because it would be futile to oppose such a referendum now. No political capital could be gained from such an action. The referendum when it happens and it has to now because if it does not Cameron would look more foolish than Clegg did with his tuition fee U turn.
I am an opponent of referendums as i think they are rank bad politics and take away responsibility from our elected paid representatives. They let politicians off the hook because if things go wrong they can absolve themselves of any blame, simply because Joe Bloggs voted so.
So we are having a say now. I dont approve but as it is happening i must do what i think is right and take part in the democratic process.
It is a strange maybe some will feel an odd position that as it stands i want out but oppose referendums, yrt as it will be imposed upon us we must endeavour to make the choice we all feel is right for the future of the UK
Precisely. This is merely a Labour politician putting their own interests before their principles, just as you would expect them to, and just as they always do.
Dont be a fucking tool
They are simply ackowledging that it is no longer feasible to oppose such a move as it was passed into law during the last Parliament
As for principles it will be interesting to see the principles of the far right nutters if they dont get what they want.
So you can't think of any other times Harriet Harman, architect of all-women shortlists in safe Labour seats, may have compromised her stated beliefs in favour of a plan of action that just happened to benefit those closest to her?
What Harriet has done is bow to the inevitable on the EU referendum, because it is enshrined in LAW
What else you are trying to infer is irrelevant to this thread.
There is no law requiring a referendum on EU membership.
Labour simply did a U turn.
Ain't no hypocrite like a lefty hypocrite.
