European away games ticketing policy

Seems simple enough to me - they could do the same for domestic games as well. ok people will not have their passport but they have details of ticket holders so could cross-reference

Spot checks are exactly the way to go IMO with penalties for those who get caught trying to cheat the system.

This is what United do and it would've drastically reduced the chaos we saw in Glasgow. Imagine it - instead of having thousands try to collect during a window of a few hours, select a small number at random after they've applied for a ticket - say 5% - to collect at the destination. That way you'd have less than 200 turning up and queue times would be drastically reduced. In turn, City don't need to put loads of staff on at the collection point so fans have saved a lot of time and the club has saved money. Make it clear that anyone who is caught red-handed having someone else try and collect for them will be handed a 12 month ban from applying for away tickets.

This is what United do and it's a no-brainer. Anyone that tries to cheat the system would be an idiot to risk a ban in those circumstances - just like that United fan who is currently crying all over the papers.

Spot on with spot checks.

It is just plain common sense that any new system must ensure those with high points get a ticket - providing they are using it for themselves.

I cannot see how any fan can question that right.

What is unfair is buying them to pass on - causing someone, also with a lot of points, to miss out in favour of someone without the required points.

The level to which required points dropped following introduction of ticket collection shows how big an issue this is
And does your post not indicate that people with high points might have maintained those by buying tickets and passing them on. I know at least two people who post on here who are often buying tickets and passing them on. So I do question that right.

No one has a right to anything. The points system has outlived its usefulness and isn't suitable for the current levels of demand for tickets. Get rid, go to a ballot system and introduce random checks.

Oh please name & shame PB.

Not for me PB. I've been going to away games on a regular basis (usually at least half of our away fixtures per season) since 1982, and I don't think some sort of seniority based system is out of order at all. The club is already making it harder than ever for me to get away tickets (despite my having a high points total) by flogging off blocks to tourists, particularly for the London games

I answered your last question. What happens to you answering mine or do different rules apply to the anti supporters club brigade?

I will answer you any way. Do you think a lifelong Stretford Blues like myself would be put off by missing a game lol. I use to walk to Maine Road when I couldn't afford the bus fare.

The away tickets aren't really aa big deal to the Supporters Club I am in. I pointed this out before as you know. We have 60 season card holders and got two tickets for Glasgow Celtic. I tried to give up my ticket to the Head of our Supporters Club but he was too decent to accept it.

I hope this helps your undertaking.
First of all I must have missed you question, that was not intentional. Secondly I am not anti supporters club I am anti how tickets are distributed on a whole and also why supports club can request an allocation before a criteria is announced

Thanks Mick.

I don't miss many games but I have paid touts in years gone by if I haven't been able to get a ticket through the Club.

Some allocate by the book, some it is blatant misuse

I don't doubt your point. It's just that the people I know through Supporters Clubs have been away day regulars for donkey's years.

I did hear that a few people got to the Bournemouth game last year when maybe they shouldn't but I don't know the guys personally.

I think the Club's review into ticket points will be interesting. Even if the North Stand extension does not include extra corporate tickets, there will probably be more corporate seats in the East and Colin Bell stands (North of the halfway line). If the Club gives the Corporates first dibs on tickets then loyal fans' chances of away tickets will be squeezed further.
