Not going to happen.

The premier league is bigger in terms of revenue than the champions league.

Why change it.

As I've said before here, because you're thinking in the wrong terms. You're talking as if football revenue has peaked already, but it hasn't - it's a million miles from. There are ways they could change the CL - admittedly by destroying everything that is good about football - to make it earn more than the PL. There are also ways of replacing the PL and CL with a Super League that honestly could make £500m+ in TV revenue PER CLUB PER SEASON. After all, if the domestic TV companies in the UK alone are willing to give enough money to give every team £100m a season then imagine what could happen if they could get every country in Europe paying an equivalent rate, plus the US, Asia, South America too.

If you think that the clubs see no financial incentive to this compared to the PL then you really need to reassess.

the smell of shit is coming from united and liverpool the rest of the so called big teams they fear there day has come and gone being the power in football. its changing and fast and they see it with us being top dogs for the next 10 years and now want to take there ball home. just like the Liverpool of the 70s/80s united and the rest could not beat them so they change the idea of the English football league to a premier league with sky being united number 1 partner they new they could sell it to the arm chair fans and glory hunters around the world if they stop Liverpool winning it every season

now we have the what the English league was 25 years ago and sky running it into the ground with this crap about united being the top team winning it all the time and then up steps Manchester city
not just a quick fix spend big win and moved on like they all hoped but the new owners put there money into manchester city in the right way build a empire that is 2nd to none without the backing of sky's media plugging a dead horse(united) even sticking the boot into manchester city at every chance did not work we went on and won the premier league and then did it again just to rub the salt
into the wounds

now they want to change it again so they don't have to win anything just the name is now powerwith being a super club means they can take anything they want the history books are now more then open they are what is needed to play in there leagues. without history your just not going to be invited into the golden league of media football

this has been on the cards for years and talked about for even longer. The CL has been constantly revamped to maintain hype/revenue and the current format is dying. The superleague is ineviatble, to miss out would be embarrassing for our owners, no matter how much we, as fans, detest it

The current format is dying because it is seeded out of existence. That is the reason why the same groups crop up again and again. City drawing Bayern Munich three times in five years says it all.

A closed competition would be even more tedious than the existing format. Coming up with a format that fans detest doesn't sound the best way to generate extra revenue.

We have heard this bluster about a breakaway League for years. I don't see it happening.

if anyone had any remaining doubts that football was a club for the boys and a racket for the old establishment of teams, let this postulation of ideas put those doubts to rest

More knockout rounds early on followed by 2 leagues of 8 teams (14 games in total) rather than the present 8 groups of 4 which is generally a snorefest as you can pretty much predict the results.

why 'so much for' it? seems to be moving more towards a larger league system to me!!

Although it's only a possibility at the moment there's no indication that there'll be more teams in the competition and there's less teams in the group stages (a good thing in my mind). Can't see how that's closer to a European Super League.
