European super league

See that the EPL are at loggerheads with FIFA over the Club World Cup we are set to compete in during the summer of 2025.

I can see the big clubs moving away from UEFA/FIFA and international football at some point I really can.

UEFA and FIFA dont give a toss about players, fans or lower level clubs anyway.

I’m not sure how much longer they’d be big clubs once they’d broken away from FIFA.

Despite the lack of interest on here, international football is still the pinnacle for most pro footballers.

No FIFA. No internationals.

In fact, no FIFA, no football at all against anyone but fellow splitters.

If enough break away the problem will be for the ones left behind.

What players want re internationals I think is irrelevant when we are talking big big £ but I take your point.

I like this version of the events.
However, what does it really mater who withdrew first? Or am i missing something here? Genuine question BTW.
No doesn’t matter at all. City were late to the party and first to leave

I'm not sure posters on Bluemoon, without sight of the full facts, are in a position to call our senior executives "amateurish".
Well they allowed Joel Glazer to post a full page on the clubs official website telling us why and how good the ESL was going to be. Not exactly the smartest decision ever made was it?

Whilst partly agreeing, I'd turn that round and ask why such erudite and intelligent people would sign up to something and then only become aware that [it] "will kill the leagues, that it won’t allow [sporting] merit, that it was the end of football" after it became public knowledge.

One day the full story of our involvement will come out but my guess is that it won't be the black and white narrative some would like it to be.
Because they are greedy bastards like the rest of them. Soriano saw the £££ signs and couldn’t help himself. The worst decision the club have made since the takeover by a million miles. All down to money.

FIFA have somewhere very roughly in the region of 250 million footballers registered under their umbrella.

Even if every ‘big’ club broke away, it would cause a mighty stir for sure. But in the grand scheme of things, they would be a tiny little isolated organisation. Left to play football exclusively amongst themselves for ever more.

Their pool of future players would more than likely completely dry up. They’d probably be reduced to tempting ageing stars for one last big pay day and eventually end up like 1970s MLS. But without the young local talent.

According to the Sun, I know, the Super League is back with a new name and new format.

Until you read the article you won't know how stupid and complicated the proposal is.

EU WHAT?

European Super League is BACK in new £2.7BILLION ‘Unify League’ format… and it could replace Champions League

For people who wont click the link because it's the Sun, here's one for the Telegraph.

If you wont click either link there's no hope for you :)

The European Super league company and A22 will now ask Uefa for permission to operate the competition. A22 believes Uefa is obliged to do so under the Dec 2023 ruling from the European courts.

The proposal is for 96 clubs to compete – fewer than the 108 that qualify for the group stages of Uefa’s three competitions including the Champions League. The Unify League champions would eventually come from the top two tiers, the Star League and Gold League. Both would feature 16 teams divided in both cases into two groups of eight. Those eight would play each home and away – 14 group stages fixtures. The top two clubs from each of the four groups would go through to a final eight.

The final stages would begin with two-legged quarter-final followed by single game semi-finals played at a neutral venue in the same week as the eventual final. That would mean 18 games in all for the winner. The Blue and Union leagues would play a similar knockout format.

The original breakaway involved 12 clubs, including six from the Premier League. The current version only has the explicit support of Real and Barcelona
