Everton post-match thread

IMO one of the major reasons this season is playing out the way it is is because everyone knows Pep is coming.

Was always going to be one way or the other. Players either raise themselves or don't knowing the new manager is coming.
It's the 7th Jan and we are in 4 competitions. Players to come back from injury. Domestically at least, other teams/squads are also creaking under the pressure of the number of games, mostly played at high intensity. I therefore fail to see how you can assess how 'this season is playing out'.

For me, it's going reasonably well. I'd say that we are still favourites to go through the semi and have as good a chance as any of winning the league. The other two cups depend on the draws and large slices of luck. So why is everybody getting their knickers in a twist this morning? I genuinely don't understand.

Because if you look at the trend of results and performances its painfully obvious where this season is going. It's gone. We saw this last season around Janaury and it's already underway.

How can Pellegrini play Toure for 90 mins in a Cup semi-final? These games pass him by and leave us with 10 men

I seldom have a go at any of our managers. However this is the reason why most City fans are getting "their knickers in a twist".Lack of confidence in him.And I suspect neither have a lot of our players but thats just my take on it.

I am with you on this @coleridge.

If at the start of the season I was told that we would be where we are now, I would have ripped both of your hands off for it.
So would I, but you can't ignore the way we are playing. Every manager and fan in the country has us sussed now.

Cheers. I agree with your Mangala comments as well. Shame he had to come off after signs of improvement in the last couple of games.

It always feels a bit of a result to just get out of that shitty old wooden stand without it collapsing or burning down. On the pitch, just feels like I could cut and paste the same stuff that has been said for the majority of matches in the last three months or so. We simply aren't playing well enough, it used to be that we were a shambles at the back but were decent enough going forward. These days we aren't good enough anywhere on the pitch and sadly I don't see any real progress in terms of snapping out of what feels like a genuine malaise (in terms of performances relative to personnel). Yaya is a liability, I know there are still the occasional flashes of genius that save our arses but overall I think he hinders us as a team more than he helps us. There were quite a few around me last night who were furious at him. I don't feel like that, I actually feel it is quite sad to see a player who was an absolute beast physically 18 months ago just so often floundering.

I agree with your post and its the stance ive taken all season so far but the optimism requires 11 players going out every game and giving 100%. They do that and im certain we would finish the season very well indeed and land some silverware but they are not.

Our work rate is abysmal. Our tempo is abysmal. One team played last night as if it was a cup semi final and left everything out there whilst the other had some incredibly talented players barely breaking a sweat and completely abandoning and defensive responsibilities they had as part of a team whilst also doing fuck all up front to create movement and space in which to work.

The bulk of this squad downed tools for Bob because he was a firebrand yet they are doing it again with a manager who has shown them nothing but respect and is the complete opposite as a character.

I for one dont want them here to do the same to Pep or any other manager we might have just because they cant be arsed any more.

The mentality has to change once and for all.

Both good posts. Agree.
