Everton Thread - 2023/24

It sets a precedent as they have just made up the punishment on the spot with a note that due to a billionaire owner, only a points deduction is punishment. So if our owner wasnt a billionaire, a fine would have done it?
If this is correct then surely if the punishment is a fine for one it should be a fine for all maybe the billionaire owned clubs should be fined more

Let's not start this "it sets a precedent purely so they can do us" story. This has nothing to do with city and the premier league aren't punishing everton to make it easier to come for us it's as stupid of an argument as those comparing the two completely separate cases.

Question that needs to be asked is everton will have been fully aware they were on course to fail ffp so why did they not just look to sell somebody in the window to cover the near £20 million overspend? One sale prevents this.

Thanks for some sense, ninja.

Basically no point fining a club with wealthy owners, so they had to go with points.

It’s irrelevant if they have no evidence to prove any wrongdoing.

Of course but im saying usually clubs get hit with fines or transfer bans. This appears to be points due to our owner being a billionaire. There are no rules or guidelines in place for what we have done so why out of all the punishments, is it a huge points deduction?

I think the fans know the board and owners are not blameless in this, hence the push to remove the board. They would have accepted a points deduction, but the outrage is coming from the harshness of it. The biggest deduction in PL history and more than a club going into Administration...... for £19.5m and apparently due to a tax issue on a loan for the stadium.

Doesn't work like that. All players have a value in the books and you have to sell for more than the value to report a profit. Big clubs tend to pay the most and have values higher than what they can get, it's like if rags sold maguire or Anthony what would they get? Probably less.
How it's recorded doesn't matter, it's all income for ffp in terms of reducing immediate losses.

One of the arguments is about player sales. Covid affected the market and market rate of players. We would have been budgeting for sales but we either couldnt sell or lost money.

Now I know you can say the same for all teams but we were close to the edge anyway then covid hit, which nobody on earth could have predicted. It just compounded the issue.

The point I'm trying to make is it wasn't out of Evertons control to ensure they comply despite unforseen cicrumstances. additional sales in the transfer window prevents this.

The only logical reason they didnt do this is everton thought any potential punishment for failing ffp was worth it over selling a player, anticipating a fine and perhaps this is what the premier league have taken issue with. If there's no obvious attempt to comply, they're probably going to be harsher on the punishment.
