As has already been said, it's not the first time that nearly identical situations happened, but we got away with it. This time Torres got to the ball and Hart was punished, such is the wickedness of chance, but Hart probably had it coming; too often he's been far from convincing in coming out when he doesn't need to, and not coming to claim balls that he should!
I had such great hopes for Hart, and have in the past said he was up there with the best (for a short period, imo, he was the world's most in-form keeper), but now he's begun to seriously get on my nerves. His string of regular mistakes has lasted too long, and I'm fed up. Thinking about how many points have been lost due to his errors makes me genuinely nauseous, so I try not to think about it too much.
Another thing that irks is me is his long passes! Needs to stop hoofing the ball back to the opposition when a short pass is available (and it usually is). Dammit Hart, you don't even have to do Valdez passes but a harmless little short pass will at least help us keep possession. Sure who doesn't like whacking the ball up the pitch and admiring the trajectory of its flight, but kicking the ball to the opposition when a game is tight and they're looking to maximize every possession is stupid and has both directly and indirectly led to goals.
I expected to see an improvement in his distribution by now...after all, he was improving then. I thought now, we'd see the little things (with sometimes big positive effects) you normally do from a top keeper like accurate throws to start attacks, better balance of long/short kicks, but he's stagnated. An incomplete goalkeeper, but usually good shot stopper.
Neuer is only a year older and looks more well-rounded. And it's not a matter of talent as I remember when Neuer looked unpolished. It shows you what hard work and focus gets you as Neuer used to drop clangers and be dodgy on corners and crosses. Now, so dominant and assured.
Hart has always been somewhat untested besides that Birmingham season where he actually had to do work. These last couple years, our defence has been so strong that most of the shots that reach the keeper, are low percentage shots. Hence, the consecutive golden gloves. That title winning season in particular, Hart was damn good, but even then I have to give the defence a lot of credit for those gloves. I suppose if he played for a weaker team defensively, we'd know exactly his true level. Our defence is (or maybe was, atm) so good that many of the leagues lower keepers would have much improved stats and performances playing for us.
Hart is idolised by many because he is our English talisman. Some of his easiest, central saves are talked up, and mistakes brushed aside. I know some won't agree with me, but I try tell it how I see it.
