a) it was January
b) it was Hughes and City and he had millions burning a hole in his pocket
I still think that £17m is too much for a player that missed last season through injury - he had one good season in the Prem thats all. Look at Benjani's goalscoring record before he joined us !

Actually, his goal scoring rate was quite good at Blackburn, it's the 14.5m profit that they are making that precludes it being classed as "excellent business" at this point.riley347 said:DontLookBackInAnger said:I agree I was shocked by what we have been reported as having paid for Barry, a great bit of business, but 17m for RSC is a shocker....(500,000 for every goal he scored while he was at Blackburn in profit).
Let,s not be silly now.....what about other attributes to his game....holding ball up/bringing other players into the game/aerial threat........to equate his ability on goals alone is a schoolboy mentality......and a bit silly................

can,t argue with that......even you hughes haters.....................

Not a Hughes hater but RSC was never £25 and is not worth £15 rising to £18m or whatever, but who cares he is a decent signing if not spectacular.
Barry is a good buy at £25m never mind £12m. Finally price depends on how much is left on their contract as well.
You are right, that we do not know that. But the story about being able to sign him for 2.3 mil in the summer also came from the Sun, who are like a broken clock in terms of it's accuracy. I guess we may never know.Cobwebcat said:allblues09 said:moreover, de jong would have signed his new contract and would not have been avaliable for the low price the press bounded around when we got him.
Well we don't know that. I really like the player but even his selling club said we offered more than double anyone else. There was no need. Just playing devil's advocate.
