Extinction Rebellion

Yeah we should be looking at hydrogen and we are. Gets less funding than the NRA though.
So it needs more.
Nuclear is cheaper than every other major method of energy production, for energy returns. Not sure what the NRA has to do with anything.

Just shows our priorities. Nuclear would be cheaper with hydrogen. It shortly won't be with anything else as the Chinese have spent the last two decades hoovering up the planet's rare earths in much the same way as the US, Russia and Western Europe positioned themselves on the world's fossil fuels.

It's also very difficult to advocate extra funding for anything in a world that's more interested in trade wars and Brexit than the environmental challenges we face.

You don’t is the simple answer. The very poor will go first and it probably will be a blessing because when large amounts of people flock to other countries or locations within countries and barriers are attempted to stop them things will get pretty nasty.
Sounds like hell on earth.

Necessity is the mother of invention

I thought that was diligence, which is precisely what we need right now in the nuclear energy industry.
Not really, not when it comes to material science and alloys (which are huge here, hydrogen fusion is the most destructive force in the universe), it's very much trial and error. My sister works in that industry and when trying to explain it to me once the best she could come up with was "it's like breeding dogs, but far more random and far less successful".

Have you seen Mad Max.
Yeah, in that universe they didn't have any contingency plan and fought over the last few scraps of fossil fuels, hoarding what they could until world civilisation collapsed and they retaliated with a nuclear barrage against their opponents which receeding the waters and turned the planet into a desert.

Your point?

We're on that path.

Survival of the fittest.
