It would be interesting to hear their take on this. Are they ecstatic they have a new champion and lots of people are all over this. its certainly got a lot if engagement .
or are they disappointed their flagship event was farcical and the result was essentially managed by the race director?

I have to say Hamilton has gone right up in my estimation, to keep so calm under those circumstances was amazing, If that was me I would have tried to push max off the track as he came past on that last lap (much like max would have done if it was the other way round).

What does it mean to let those cars go through? It looked to me that Verstappen was asked to go in front of them, so it was him that went through.

Also, why would it have made any difference if the other lapped cars had gone through? Surely, the restart would still have been with Hamilton and Verstappen in first and second place anyway?

They basically let all the cars through that would of meant the race ended under safety car and Lewis wins, or they don’t allow any cars to pass and Lewis has 5 cars between him and max and again Lewis wins the title. So the FIA did neither and created a situation where Lewis didn’t stand a chance.

I don't see how the FIA get out of this. Mercedes will go to CAS unless it's changed.

A re-race seems impossible but giving everyone another shot might be the best answer?

I think the rules already state that if the race ending is fucked up, it get counted back to who was leading when the race reached enough laps to finish - which would give Lewis the title.

Thats why its so bad, there is no equivalent of last week giving Max 10 seconds so he still finishes second and nothing changes.

There is no "yes we fucked up but this is the solution from the rules and max still wins".

The rule is racing will not restart until one full lap after all cars lapped have gone through. That would have taken it into the last lap under yellows and behind the SC and the race is over.

Well said. This is absolutely the point Mercedes will be making. This is rule 48.12. I have read it and re-read it, and there is complete clarity in what is states. There is no wriggle room. Of course if this is the case, it remains to be seen what the remedy might be, given that neither driver did anything wrong.
