I think it could be a good signing. English, cheap a good sqaud player. Better than Fernando sell him and get this guy.

I see him as the more central version of Milner. Puts a graft in, provides good energy, runs all day etc. Different position but he'd give us the qualities we lost from Milner leaving. Given our homegrown situation, for "10 million, we'd be daft not to replace Fernando with him. If you were Delph though, you'd avoid coming to City. His stock is probably the highest it will ever be right now, he had a good last season for Villa, Euros coming up, another similar season to the last could see him playing in that and he could then get himself a move to a Europa league challenger and play regular football to the best standard he's capable of. with us, he's never going to play in the big games when everybody is fit and his England place will be lost.

One argument i don't but into is the " it leaves us with more money to spend on bigger targets" This isn't the case with us this summer, Spending big on a squad filler midfielder will not impact how much we can spend on Pogba or any other target.we don't need to be saving money on cheap players, we don't need to choose one or the other, we can have them all. Hence why i'd sooner have Wilshere
I get that but Wiltshire is a hell of a risk with his injury record. It seems he can never get a decent run of games together. Good player but very risky.

He's been head and shoulders Villa's best player for yonks know, and he's been one of England's best performers in the last few games he's played in. I wonder whether some of you actually watch these players play before you pass judgement on them.
Probably the same amount of games you've watched him, unless you somehow manage to see more of Villa than what's shown on Sky or MOTD?
Being the best player in a relatively poor side isn't the ringing endorsement you obviously think it is, that rings true for Villa and England.
He's a competent Premier league player, nothing more nothing less. If we sign him he'll play maybe a dozen times in what will be perceived as "easier" fixtures as well as domestic cups.
I'm not against the signing as a squad filler, I'm just not kidding myself that he's good enough to warrant a starting place on a regular basis.

I prefer to take the credentials of someone who watches him week in, week out,a Villa ST holder, not someone who uses MOTD 5 minutes worth.
I know a player at Villa and he speaks very highly of Delph, reckons he is underrated and will go on to better things if he gets the chance. Great engine and technically good his problem can be trying to do too much which is probably down to poor players around him.

Worth a shout at the money spoken about, a great team has players who do a job with special players around them, water carriers was a term used and he could be ours in some games.

In fairness if you asked a cross section of City season ticket holders their views on several of our first team you'd likely get answers ranging from "World Class" to "Dogshit"
We all have our own opinions, we all see players differently.

Well you do that but like I've said, Villa finished 4th bottom - he should be standing out. Barton stood out for us but he went to Newcastle not Chelsea

Why do you in your posts think that we have to have world class players in every position. My son in law and his Dad are ST Holders and have constantly said that Delph is wasting his time with Villa as he`s far better than people give him credit for.IMO he would do a far better job than Fernando and I am not suggesting that he`s a starter, but certainly a player who would help out in our midfield either as a DM or AM.For £10M its a steal.

The positives are that, at £10m, it represents a relative bargain for a regular England international, and he's homegrown so fills a need in the squad. The negatives are he's not exactly a world class footballer, and I just don't see him getting a huge amount of games. How does he compare to Milner, for example, who realistically he'll be replacing? Will he play as often, or have as much impact, I remain to be convinced. Still, as a squad player, willing to sit out games when required, we could do worse, and he's one we won't lose money on as his "real" value without the £10m contract clause is probably nearer to £20m given the "English premium".
