Wilshere?

Fair point. I rate Wilshire, but he's one of those "on his day" players. He's really talented. He ripped us apart last season, and was excellent for England the other week.

But he seems to have a lot ordinary performances, and of course he's usually not fit for 50% of the season.

Delph seems to be consistently at a good level. He might not reach the heights of Wilshire, but reliability and consistancy is just as important in a squad man.

I've got a mate at work who's a Villa fan and he absolutely raves about Delph, says he's really quick, makes quick decisions and has got a decent through ball. I think he's got the potential to be Fernandinho MKII in a year or two.

If he was going to liverpool, utd, chelsea or arsenal...would he be good then though?

Just playing devils advocate lol!
He is an excellent addition, and had he signed for any of those clubs we would be commending their executives for such a bargain acquisition.

Damn right. "Can you imagine Delph alongside Henderson? England's central midfield sorted for the next decade...creativity and graft...etc. etc."
But he is joining City so he is another wasted English talent. Sittin' on t' bench.

Ho fucking hum.

For 8M, he will be grand and as I said previously, will probably get more playing time than you think.

All those world class players on Real Madrid and they won fuck all last season. Now they have to tell their fan base that they shouldn't look for them to sign a "galatico" to temper their expectations. Recently they have added the likes of Lucas Silva and Lucas Vasquez while even they are finding it hard to sign the biggest target on their list.

As mentioned before Bayern signed Josuha Kimmich and Barca signed Aleix Vidal in this window, and with both clubs, these signings came before a "name" one followed.

Season before Ivan Rakitić wasn't really a big "name" player compared to Suarez and he had bigger shoes to fill versus the ones Delph will and he proved to be an important member to Barca's side.

Delph has the right mentality to want to step up to a top club like us and want to prove himself. His highlight reel shows what he's capable of at his best, now add in the fact he will be training with much better players daily and he can improve on top of where he's already at. Some say he might lose his spot in the England team but if he gets the same amount of games Milner had and plays well I don't see how he can lose. Being at a top club and playing as well as he has to start getting called up should only solidify his position now that he will be seen more regularly in bigger games.

Totally agree mate. Barry was like the opposite of Milner. His game was based on intelligence, subtelty, reading the game, quick, incisive decision making.

I think Delph has got some of those attributes, but with a bit of the pace and athleticism of Milner thrown in. He'll be a huge updgrade in centre midfield on Fernando and Milner, which is why he's being brought in.

A huge upgrade? Don't overrate the player just because he will sign for us. He's good, certainly for 8m. And he can keep developing himself with better players around him. It's up to him to claim a regular starting place. I hope he will be a huge upgrade. He surely isn't t that now tbh.

Underwhelmed by him signing to be honest. Not the type of signing to transform us into Champions League contenders. Essential we get our other targets so we can push on.

Oh he is.
He`s far more consistent than Fernando. My son in law is a ST Holder at Villa and he says he stands head and shoulders above the rest and thinks he will be a great asset for us.He`s gutted that he`s leaving Villa.

Oh, come on! You're preferring to believe someone who's watched him week-in-week-out rather than a fellow blue who's seen him twice on MOTD. Get real!

The reality should never get in the way of a tv coucher. ;)
Just playing devils advocate- you're son in law hasn't seen Fernando play every week (as he is at the villa games) presumably. As such, just because he raves about him, doesn't mean he will be better than Fernando/you will rave about him.

We have been lucky enough to watch a far, far higher standard of football than villa fans. Fernando may stand out in that team.

I actually think Delph is a great signing for
£8m, but just pointing out that just because a villa fan raves about him, doesn't mean he is an instant upgrade. Like I said though, I'm
Playing devils advocate- I'm happy with this signing. Really hope it works out.

I wonder if the weight of expectation on Delph will be tempered if we recruit our other targets. Rodwell, Sinclair, even Adam Johnson, to an extent, struggled with being the bright young things and their respective careers have drifted as a result. Delph faces a considerable challenge to break into the team and to break the pattern, so I hope he has the necessary determination and enjoys the fans' patience to see it through.

I don't know a single villa fan who aren't gutted by him leaving but to leave on the terms he has, is a disgrace. All that loyalty and my club crap in January is disgraceful.

I'd of rather he'd of fucked off on a free.

You're getting a very good player for 8 million especially in today's market. He was our best midfielder but that's hardly a good thing in such a terrible team that we've had the last few years.
He's had some bad injuries which have hampered him. He'll certainly be not good enough to start for you.

The previous comment about him being better than Milner is utter shit though. Milner was a fantastic box to box cm for us who scored goals and and did the tidying up that Delph does. We certainly won't miss Delphs' goals!

Has got nowhere near Barrys' intelligence either. He can run around though. Loves a tackle especially one that usually results in a yellow card.

Great signing is a bit ott he's a solid squad player
A great signing for £8m. To get a solid, England international for 8m is an
Absolute steal in this market.

He won't be our Only midfield addition, which is why I specified "for 8 million".

Just remind us,how many PL yellow cards did he receive last season ?

Its funny with Sterling the media are using the 'City ruining football' with money and that the player is a twat, with Delph no mention of the money as he's cheap but using the English players graveyard line.

I think he'll be a descent signing, no player perhaps with the accept our spine can expect to start regularly and even then have to perform. if he improves/puts the performances in he'll get loads of game time.
