Fan Behaviour

You have a couple of reasons why it is different in the States.
Firstly the drinking age is strictly 21 and the attitude to being shitfaced on any alcohol / drug is frowned upon and if the police get involved the consequences are more severe than in the UK.
Secondly sports fans generally do not travel in large numbers due to geographical distances.
Yes when any American Football team visits Tampa Bay Bucs there are many away fans who have migrated to Florida present but there is no designated away fans section and therefore they are scattered all over the place so there is no mob mentality / hiding behind safety in numbers.
Thirdly prices tend to result in late teens / early 20's being absent from games (as they kind of do in the UK but prices are even higher)
Football violence in the UK is much reduced. I used to go away and every away game was an adventure. Football is much sanitised now. Part because of ticket cost, partly because authorities know everything about everyone and you have to have lost your mind now to try anything on. You'll just get nicked.

CCTV works on all street crime or disorder whether you agree with it or not. I have been to every so called dodgy ground in the 70s and 80s. The worst hand to hand I saw was Peterborough away in the cup 81 with a load of gypsies.

Yeah it was fucking crazy at Peterborough that day..went on the special trains and it was kicking off on way to the ground and on way back to the station over the bridge it went off big time.
Lots of gypsies were involved ..heard there was a big gypsy fair on in the area..but it was weird because they were in the ground as well.

Can’t decide if you’re being deliberately incendiary or not.

I’d say that both alcohol and coke are ‘mood enhancers’ if you are a fun chilled outlet guy and drink loads or snort loads then your mood is a enhanced. If you are a totally fucktard then coked up or pissed up you become more of a fucktard.

However I don’t think I agree with your statement about rather being in a room with a lid of cokeheads v drunks. From personal experience anyway.

There are many contributing factors to this fan behaviour thing, strength in numbers, people become braver etc but also it’s a cross section of society. And society has wankers and people who aren’t wankers. it’s just a shame that people who get called out as being wankers get defended by others who try to turn it into an intergenerational ‘you just don’t understand us’ argument.

Each to their own to a certain extent but you’d be a narrow minded fool to think that coke doesn’t contribute to the problems. Or you don’t actually understand the effects of coke on ‘your’ psyche. My experience of coked up people is they are not as charming, lucid or funny as they think they are.

As my daughter would say ‘You do you hun’
Agree with much of what you say and just to be clear I wasn’t condoning the nose bite I was disagreeing with those who conflate random acts of thuggery with drug use and general lairiness. As you rightly say these thugs are thugs whatever their drug of choice and in any gathering of 3000 people there will be a sizeable minority of scumbags.

I was in The Clock End and the City fans were at the far end. In my memory, as he ran over at the start of the game (or it might have been the start of the second half) and City fans were chanting "Let's all so a Seaman" and diving from side to side. He did it back and laughed.
Yes, Seaman took it all in good humour. However an arsenal fan in one of the exec boxes above the clock end took exception to the "where were you when Koeman scored" chant and kept shouting back "where was facking Coton?"

Tbh I’d also not heard of this firm until I read RR Book.
I remember he moved up to Oldham and he started knocking about with a few from that neck of the woods.
Gilly RIP from the Inspirals was around that area iirc?
I’m sure there was talk of the under 5s also.
Yes Gilly was one of the Chadderton lads

That’s bizarre isn’t it? Gypsies, they’re mad as hell. Always remember as a youth, passing a gypo site on my bike once and out comes this little kid about 10 yrs old running towards me with a thick rope full of knots trying to get me off my bike. He had absolutely no fear and was clearly looking for a fight.
