My excuse, and I will admit it, and I think many others are in a similar boat, is that we all have busy lives and as daft as it sounds, come the latter stages of the game we are constantly evaluating whether each extra minute we spend in the stadium is worth enduring an extra 5-10 minutes stuck in traffic!
Now I know the hardcore single blokes amongst you, or the 40-50 year olds whose wives no longer love them and can't be arsed if they come home at all, will struggle to understand this concept; however the vast majority I see leaving from 85 minutes onwards are families with children that are either tired or hungry, or people who have places to get to or long drives to begin. Let me tell you, it ain't much fun to have to drive 2 hours 30 minutes before and after every home game and then add an extra hour on the journey home just for the sake of spending an extra 5 minutes in a stadium. This season alone I have self driven around 6000 miles that include 2 attempts to make the journey for the Sunderland Home game that subsequently saw me trapped on the M62 for some considerable time.
Yes it can come back to bite you in the arse occasionally, however in the main, and certainly this season most games have been over as a contest after the 1st half. I certainly believe the problem has got worse in recent times as any fan leaving will hear about anything that happens immediately via radio or phone and can be guaranteed to see the incident in high definition later whilst sat at home.
I can't see ready solution and I am not sure why it appears to be worse at City than other clubs. It might be after years of supporting City through loads of shite, most of us have other things to juggle in our lives. Perhaps we have more fans with cars and that travel further to games! I suppose at least those who moan about it should be thankful we turn up at all. An important part to note is just because you may leave 5 minutes early doesn't mean you are a shit fan or a quiet fan. Personally over decades now I have spent thousands of pounds supporting City and when I am in the stadium I am certainly not quiet.
