FAO of all whom want Mourinho

Good to see all you Mourinho fans supporting a Chelsea fans view.
Good input as well.
However as I read it, he played attractive football with Ranieris players and then brought his own in and then played a less expansive but succesful game.
Still thought Chelsea became boring. The only thing I enjoyed was them keeping United in their place!
What was the crowd at his last (Champions League) game?

I will support a Chelsea fan's view if I think they're right. Lets face it, he knows more about Mourinho than anyone on here. How often did you watch Chelsea? Could you see how depressed they all looked when they hammered United 5-0 to win the title?

Come on now fella. I repeat, I don't want Hughes sacked. However, come the end of the season there could well be a big decision to be made regarding our manager. If this decision is to be made, Mourinho is top of the list for me because of his CV, and if that means us getting only one entertaining Premiership winning season with Hughes's players managed by Mourinho followed by less entertaining but equally successful seasons with his own players, then so be it. It sure beats 33 years of fuck all.

Thanks for that. Much as I suspected, but nice to hear it from the horses mouth. Out of interest, what would you make of Jose at City?

You've probably heard comments from everywhere that Hughes is your Ranieri. It's really a test of whether your board have the patience to stick with him though. We'll never truly know if Ranieri would have won us the title the season after coming 2nd, and some of the players he was getting in (Cech, Robben) show that he was definitely working towards it.

As for Jose, he'd do everything Mark Hughes has set out to do but he'd find his feet a lot quicker, which just probably comes with his experience and know how. I think in terms of man management, he'd do to Ireland what he did to Lampard and give him the belief that will make him raise his game to a level not known before, he'd probably quickly establish his best 11, make you more resolute at the back and capable of hanging onto a lead and that'll give you the extra 10-15 points a season to turn you into a team that can last the distance.

He will return to the Premier League though and on a personal level, I'm okay with wherever he goes, as long as it's not Liverpool.

It's a fair enough assessment, many Chelsea fans still mourn the removal and non replacement of Eidur Gudjohnsen from attack which cost us in high profile games when we just needed someone to do something different.

That was a sad sight, I don't even think it was 25,000. Probably our lowest attendance in over 10 years. Not the best way for our most successful manager of all time to bow out.

If it's any defence though, it was Rosenberg in a Champions League group game. I've got tickets for Apoel at home in two weeks time - I'm not expecting a full house for that either, however there'll be a lot more at the Bridge than on that night.

What's your take on the poor Champions League turn out? Anti Mourinho?

Some tiny factions possibly, but it was a full house a few days before when we drew with Blackburn. Probably too many people decided to stay at home and watch it on ITV4, I really don't know. It wasn't even a boycott against UEFA, we only slightly hated them then.

The things is, relatively few people called Chelsea 'boring' during 2004/5 (a few did after our first few games when we were still 'gelling' and then Owen Hargeaves did when we played Bayern in the CL and we decided to play Drogba alone up front to hold on to a 4-2 aggregate lead).

We played some great attacking football with Duff and Robben motoring up both sides, Gudjohnsen in the centre and Lampard ghosting in. If you're doubtful then just look on YouTube for any Chelsea 2004/5 or Duff/Robben compilation. We beat ten sides by more than 4 goals that season and but for an injury to Robben at Blackburn, I think we would have done even better, particularly in the Cups.

The boring tag came in at the start of 2005/6, when we started the season with six wins out of six, without conceding a single goal in the process and then went on to not drop a single point in the league until the end of October. Everyone started accusing us of killing football by basically making things look too easy and in effect, by winning every week, it became 'boring' because a Chelsea win was predictable. You may remember a debate had by many on how 4-5-1/4-3-3 was killing football. Football Focus did a feature on it and 606 had whole phone ins on it.

Like many things, the original reason for the boring tag warped towards the fact that we started playing in a slightly different fashion because Drogba and not Gudjohnsen was the main talisman up front, therefore we played to Drogba's strengths - which compared to Eidur was less attractive for pure football lovers. Couple that with Duff and Robben being in and out of the team with injuries, and neutrals/dislikers accused us of being a completely different kind of boring - a clinical, grinding team with a less impressive brand of football than before. Were we bothered though, no. We were still beating Arsenal, sticking 3 without reply against Man Utd, seeing off Liverpool with ease in the league and spending the whole season 12 points clear.

I haven't really followed Italian Football because my love of Jose doesn't extend to an ESPN subscription, but he'd do a decent job wherever he goes. I still believe he never replaced players to the standard of what Ranieri had brought in, which ultimately cost us in 2006/7 and 2007/8, but none of us truly know how much interference from above he was victim of. However, you can't argue with his track record.

People liked us under Ranieri, People hated us under Mourinho. But I know who I'd rather have at the helm, given the choice of those two.

Quality post this had to point out, much better contribution than from some opposition fans on here.

As for Hughes/Mourinho, I'd like Hughes to stay for many years because if he does stay then it means City will have been successful, however if Mourinho did become available I'd be gutted if no one from our club sounded him out. The guy is young, DOES play nice football, is very ambitious and a winner. My only reservations are whether he'd actually come to us (clearly no one knows 100% except Jose himself), and whether after 3 years he'd run off to Barcelona or Real Madrid. I might be being a bit idealistic but I'd like a manager to stay at us for years and really develop a winning culture and philosophy into the club, build an empire as the song goes.
