bristol's new order

There was an American band from Minneapolis, Minnesota called Dropping Daylight. I play their album all the time still but I never understood why they didn't get any further. My mates who I told about them love them. Octane records signed them for their first full album in 2006 (I think it was then) but dropped them.

'Tell Me' was played on a lot of radio stations in the USA apparently but apart from that I think that's the only real publicity they had. I always love songs that are quiet but after a minute kick into something louder.

Blame Me

Last time I spoke to their band members on Facebook, Seth was telling me that they decided to change their whole style of music and make a new band which are called 'Kidnap Kings'.

The Chameleons - Middleton's finest.

Geneva. What a voice that guy had.

I remember Geneva. I had their first (only?) album and was expecting so much more. Sometimes it just never happens.

The Music were being touted as the next big thing in Indie but they couldn't carry it off. 3 albums in 10 years and some touring. Nothing else.

Tranquilizer by Geneva is fucking awesome - I've got the CD Single.

-- Sat Nov 13, 2010 11:39 pm --

Great call with The Open - Elevation is immense, had high hopes for them.

I had never heard of The Chameleons previously but man - they are mind blowing.

Awesome band. What a pity they never reached the heights they deserved.

I Agree with previous posts about The Church and Hoodoo Gurus both great Aussie bands who are still very big in Oz but not elsewhere.

I'm a recent convert to The Cocteau Twins. Words can't describe some of their music. Almost spiritual.

The Field Mice are cool too.

Bands I would add to the list would be

SLINT (not to everyones tastes but highly influential)

Mission of Burma

Sandpit (Melbourne Band from 1990's)

Magic Dirt (Melbourne Band from 1990's)

Good call.

Can't believe The Chameleons didn't make it, saw them on Middleton Civic Hall and The International and they were brilliant. The singer Mark Burgess is a massive blue and used to work in the ticket office at Maine Rd!

Oh, Easterhouse were another one that got away!

The Chameleons played at the Fac251 about 6 months ago. As good as ever

I remember The Waltones and The Man from Delmonte v well. (Try the Crimea or Pete and The Pirates for similar)
King of the Slums were a bit loud for me but always remember their "Bombs away on Harpur Hey" song title.
And This Mortal Coils Kangaroo has always been a favourite.
Some top tunes here. Will go through all the others now.

Agree re The Dead 60s. Saw them support Ash 2 or 3 years ago and really thought I'd be hearing more of them.

Same here mate. Saw them support Morrissey about 5yrs ago in Bridlington and they were excellent. Even bought their album.

Some great shouts on here. Shack, Big Star, Microdisney, Fatima Mansions, Cosmic Rough Riders, Beta Band. The Chameleons I have posted about extensively on other threads as THE great lost Manchester band. Swamp Thing was their best song though. From Manchester I'd add World of Twist and more recently The Longcut, A Tried and Tested Method being a classic song and video from the latter. Teenage Fanclub have had a decent career but should be playing stadiums by now. The Icicle Works and instrumental space rockers Mogwai deserve more recognition. Check out New Paths To Helicon part 1 (aka Helicon 1) by the latter
