Don't know if they have been mentioned but Proud Mary should have been more popular than they were. Their first album is well worth a purchase and features a Noel Gallagher cameo.

The Redskins.
The Smithereens.
Jason and the Scorchers.
Drive by Truckers.
The Flying Buritto Brothers/Gram Parsons.

Foals: really good indie band. Nominated for Mercury Prize but have never broken on to anywhere except XFM.

Crystal Castles: incredible dance act. #39 in the Top 100 albums of the noughties in NME Magazine.

Dananananaykroyd: very different act who have only made it on to FIFA 10 despite critical acclaim.

OneRepublic: nowhere near as big as they should be. They should be much more than a two-hit wonder, in my opinion. Vastly under-rated because they're similar to Coldplay.

Back Door Slam: lead singer/guitarist compared to Clapton. Had one album and then broke up in January 2009.

Delphic: a modernised version of Depeche Mode/New Order.

The Smiths: only had two UK Top 10s despite obvious brilliance.

Elbow: musically, one of the best bands around right now. They never get enough praise, in my opinion.

Fleet Foxes: they are everything Mumford & Sons are trying to be, yet M&S get more radio play because they're 'hip'.

Silversun Pickups: brilliant rock band. Smashing Pumpkins re-invented and re-worked. Brilliant.

Vampire Weekend: wonderful band, brilliant sound on both albums but they've never had a UK Top 30. An absolute travesty.

The xx - They get radio play, but never enough, despite winning the Mercury Prize.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - 'Zero' was the song of the year in 2009 according to Spin Magazine, but they never get radio play either, despite critical acclaim on al three of their albums.
Most ridiculous list of bands I've read to have not made it. Half of them are still about. Apart from a few, there are some worldwide known bands on that list.

Good shout on Beta Band, though. The term most of you are looking for is 'underrated'.

Off top of my head:
Forward Russia
Dead 60s
The Others
The Rakes
The Naughtys (don't know if they're still about)

Moody places

Great band!

Clifford Oiger now works in the Arndale Tower in maintenance/lifting and carrying. For those unaware who he is, he was the guitarist from Northside, and appeared pissed out of his tree on an episode of Never Mind the Buzzcocks in the mystery Guest lineup!

shame. these could have been big
