Favorite Bands that Never Made It?

Some great shouts on here. Shack, Big Star, Microdisney, Fatima Mansions, Cosmic Rough Riders, Beta Band. The Chameleons I have posted about extensively on other threads as THE great lost Manchester band. Swamp Thing was their best song though. From Manchester I'd add World of Twist and more recently The Longcut, A Tried and Tested Method being a classic song and video from the latter. Teenage Fanclub have had a decent career but should be playing stadiums by now. The Icicle Works and instrumental space rockers Mogwai deserve more recognition. Check out New Paths To Helicon part 1 (aka Helicon 1) by the latter

They're playing The Star And Garter in a couple of weeks. I'd guess they might be doing some new material.

A guy that used to play in my basement deserved much more success... sounds just like James Taylor which is why record companies wouldn't get behind him... This song I used to put on mix tapes to the ladies...

Cheers Shands, might check that out. I thought I read somewhere on here a while back that they'd packed up.
Another worth mentioning is one of Guy Garvey's favourite bands The Leisure Society. Frontman Nick Hemming was the first unsigned songwriter nominated for The Ivor Novello for Last of the Melting Snow and then was nominated again for Save It For Someone Who Cares the following year. Film fans will recognise the two fellow members of his first ever band as a youngster in Burton on Trent - Shane Meadows and Paddy Considine. Some talent in that line-up

I think they had a lot of bad luck when they were recording the 2nd album. From memory the record was all but complete but then the studio was robbed (or it could have been a fire) and they lost all they’d done. I think there were suggestions they might call it a day at that point. They did carry on though and the album got positive reviews in the end although I doubt it sold much. This next gig must be their first one in about a year, should be a good night.

That Petrol Emotion were another great lost band. Formed from the ashes of the Undertones, great singles like It's a Good Thing, Big Decision, Swamp, Tingle, Hey Venus and Sensitize. But never delivered the big album their talent promised

no way,me and my mate went mad over these lot, seen them supporting cooper temple clause at the academy and at the apollo on the carling tour,we even bought the skull and crossbone t-shirt...we ended up getting a bit obsessed with them and bought the album and the singles they released.....
