He played poorly, but his style, positioning, movement and comfort on the ball suggests this is probably where he best helps us this season

Not a great game from him but he deserves another crack at making the right back position his own. He has all the attributes to play the role and today it was just his crossing that let him down, positionally he was sound especially with it being an unfamiliar role. Lets not forget he's not played for a month or so, so he was bound to be rusty. I'd give Delph a crack at left back aswell till we can bring someone better in this summer.

He seemed to has lost some weight. Maybe it's an age thing but he's got this long distance runner physique.

he's not the right back. get a proper one.
in the mean time, just play zaba and sagna in their natural position.
dinho, yaya, silva and de bruyne.. need to fight for 3 spots in the middle.

This thread seems weird. Yes, his touches were a bit off but I think that's understandable given the circumstances. But it's not like he is unable to combine on the wing (see some of our big games last year when Pellegrini played Fernando and Yaya in the centre to have Dinho on the right midfield), and also he quite obviously played as a CM in possession to prevent counters and create space for Sane/Sterling. So, in a lot of ways, it was business as usual.

You can't judge whether he can play right back or not on the strength of that game. He wasn't getting skinned or anything but just had a really poor game by his standards his touch was shocking at times and so was some of his passing. Not controlling the ball and poor passes had nothing to do with position though and everything to do with him looking rusty after a spell out.
