Fernandinho - 2018/19 Performances

Another who in big games is missing Kev. He was not alone having an off day, I do think the passes into him - apart from Eddie's - were too slow and that allowed a full press. Germany did just that to Brazil in the WC 4 years ago, same result was constantly losing possession.
 
Proof last night we should have gone balls deep for Jorginho and sacked off Mahrez and alleviated some pressure off him. Because it’s only going to build and build as the season goes on

We literally agreed terms with him and Napoli. What were we supposed to do, agree them again? He chose to follow his manager.

I thought we agreed with the player and his agent but hadn’t settled on a fee with Napoli? And then Chelsea offered more money.

Whether we had or we hadn't, we still had a deal with the player. He changed his mind. Sure, if we'd have then gone back and offered more, he might have changed it again, but by all accounts we wanted players that wanted to join us and not players who would only do so the more we offered them.

Agree we should have found an alternative to rotate with Fernandinho, though.

I agree with you so I supposed the sentiment really is gone after a replacement for Ferna rather than Mahrez who we technically didn’t really need

Depends which rumours you want to believe mate.... Either way, Fern of 2018 doesnt look like the Fern of 2017, which at 33/34 is going to happen. Whether it was Joringho or someone else, it was clear, we needed a replacement/cover for Fern as some of these performances are now showing and we didnt do it. This just shows the importance of having a turnover in the squad to keep it fresh.. If you add to that the fact that Liverpool and Chelsea also look stronger, its going to be alot harder season. The one thing we cant forget is Kev's injury...I think thats had a big impact so far this season.

Agree but we didn't buy Mahrez instead of Jorginho we were trying for both. I assume after losing Jorginho we couldn't see a suitable available alternative. I assume we will work on something for January. That said no one could have predicted a Fernandinho performance as bad as last night he hasn't been as good this season as last but he also hasn't been as awful as last night it's hard to explain.

Who wasn't suitable/available in the summer who suddenly will be in January? Simply we put all our cdm eggs in one basket and someone pinched that basket.

How would I know, but having 5 months to work on someone is easier than 2 or 3 weeks after we lost Jorginho. I'd be very surprised if no one comes in, in January. Neves and De Jong are 2 names mentioned but there may be others .

My point was that we dropped a bollock rather than anyone not being suitable. Plenty of options out there, depends what Pep wants i guess which judging by Jorginho is a metronomic passer, comfortable under pressure and who is defensively intelligent. He wants a regen of Busquets.

We're in that brilliant position at City where 99% of players want to play for us, "so for the love of God" go out and buy a fcking DM in January, because we fcked up over the summer. And find a way to give fern more rest periods, jeez these things aren't fcking rocket science, I swear to god man.

I recon Jorginho would have killed us stone dead.

We need someone who can at least do some of what Fernandinho does, so that Fernandinho doesn't have to do it, every single game, if KDB or someone gets injured.

That someone, imo, should be able to run & recover. We can sign another flicky Fancy Dan as well if needed.

Horrendous performance, hopefully he's got that out of his system now we won't see a repeat.

I really hope not, he's key to what we do.

I think it's a no brainer that he should be rotated with Gundogan to keep him as fresh as possible.

I appreciate that Gundo's typical performance isn't as high a standard as Fernandinho's however the shortfall for the team in general isn't as high as when Gundogan plays in Silva or DeBruyne's role imo.

I'd play Delph or Zinchenko before Gundogan.The two Silva's in front.

Their passing game and their press resistance isn't of a high enough standard. I think Gundogan is actually more press resistant than Fernandinho, where he falls short in that role is recovery pace and aggression.
