Apart from the idiot bit, has to agree with the original post imo. Someone as experienced as Txiki should have known the volatility of the market and should have had a back up planned for such an important position in our squad. Genuinely hope it doesn't cost us this season.

Guardiola due any criticism here or is it all on Txiki?

Let's hope he can get back to last season's form asap, definitely needs to be rested in some games.

Whose job is it to get the right players ? I think Txiki. Of course Guardiola would have provided his inputs, but ultimately Txiki's responsibility if I understood the structure correctly.

I'm specifically referring to having a backup plan, did Pep have one?

May be he is trying something in training after being told pretty late that you won't get Jorginho, we don't know that. His experiments with Zinch/Stones probably points to this. He may not be comfortable yet rolling it out in important games. Douglas Luiz getting no WP didn't help either.
My point is we don't know what Pep does finding an alternative, but we do know that Txiki didn't do his best in this recruitment.

No we don't, unless you're privvy to inside info?

If he did, well his best was not good enough in this case, with all due respect to his great work so far.
How do we know it wasn't good enough, did you not see 'All or Nothing'. He is given a budget for players it's not down to him to exceed the budget. What was he supposed to do kidnap Jorginho, magic another suitable player if non were available ?

He was supposed to have a Plan B and execute it when plan A failed.

No, a well scouted alternative.
Well maybe the best alternative wasnt available in the summer ? Maybe we decided it was better to wait and not settle for second best ? Maybe the alternatives werent value for money. Maybe we dont know the thinking, chances are though we'll be looking longer term than 1/2 a season.

Explain what more he could have done seeing as you seem to know where and how he failed

Maybe. As long as it doesn't cost us.

Most could see his decline starting from the back end of last season some just chose to not see it.Pep carries almost twice the blame in this whole situation. If Pep had insisted on an alternative after the Jorginho situation, the club/Txixi would have signed one.The fact that we didn't sign anyone else must have been Pep's final word and that he was comfortable with the situation..That he didn't want a 'stop-gap'.
The fact that Fernandinho looks dead on his feet and it's only mid Sep makes the whole situation even more embarassing since Pep/the club felt that the DM situation was an issue way back in Jan with chasing Fred and suddenly just before the season started,
the hierachy felt that the issue was just going to magically take care of itself..Absurd.
They'll definitely try to address the situation in January but it will be more or less have to be a 'stop-gap' since I can't see PSG,Wolves or Ajax letting go of Rabiot,Neves or De Jong in the middle of the season. They would but for insane money, which we don't tend to spend these days.
