Gabriel Jesus: "I had a talk with Fernandinho. He has been helping me a lot. He has always been very important since I arrived at the club. With his experience throughout his career, he is giving me advice. The day before the game, we had a nice chat. He always looks after all of us, especially the young ones. As a countryman, he came to talk to me and tell me to remain calm. I was calm today, more confident and I managed to score two goals, that was very important to me."

He really has done so much for Gabby over the years, for example a few months ago Gabby said:
"When I arrived in Manchester, he and his family did so much. We used to go over to his house and eat with him, because we didn't know the city well enough to find Brazilian food. We are a very Brazilian family, so we needed that. We would also chat, and it helped us start to feel at home here. That was very important. I was 19 years old, in another country with a different culture and a different language. I didn't know anything. It would have been difficult if it wasn't for the people helping me. Fernando, who is not at City anymore, also helped. But Fernandinho...I consider him to be a kind of godfather figure for me."

Bless them.....

Is this his last year at City? - I hope not. He's still got gas in the tank.

This is exactly what people said about Fernandinho at Shakhtar.

He was the one that made their entire Brazilian project work. He learned Russian, so he could be the link between the Ukrainian players and Brazilians, he and his wife tracked down all the Brazilian expats in Donetsk and found out where they got the food and stuff from Brazil that they missed and sorted the new Brazilians out with it. They also ran the social side of things for the Brazilians but made sure they integrated with the rest of the team as well.

I've said this before, but Fern is the kind of person you do not let leave the club. Play him until he wants to retire and offer him a job in whatever part of the club or CFG he wants. Bayern and Barca are really good at keeping people around and involved in the club, and it's something we should be doing as well, develop our own versions of Txiki, Soriano or even Pep.

That's genuinely fascinating. Had no idea! Source?

Andy Brassell + James Horncastle have talked about it in depth on the "On the continent" podcast (they actually bring it up every few months whenever Shakhtar and Mircea Lucescu come up) but I'm not sure the exact episodes, sorry.

fernandinho on his role at centre-back: "The job you do at the back is so important as you help to defend and attack. The culture is that whoever scores goals gets the spotlight but it depends on everyone. You have to protect your defensive line..."

"When you have the ball try to give to give players in front the ball to attack and create chances. I don't think I am being missed in midfield. Rodri is playing really well there. Of course, we are a little bit different but he's doing really well..."

"In general the team plays well, the detail made the difference last week and of course we have to improve and react as soon as possible, and we have an opportunity on Sunday."

fernandinho on the season so far: "It's been really tough, really hard. If you take the statistics, we were better, in control of the game, but the result counts in the end. We have to go again. It's our opportunity to show it was an accident against United..."

"We conceded two easy goals and it makes the game more difficult for us. We couldn't find a way to react. Arsenal like to play football, we like to play football. It will be a nice game for the fans." #MCFC
