There was a lot of talk earlier in the season of City buying back Luiz from Villa as a replacement. Think his buy back expires this summer. I've not watched his progress though. What do people think?

I love Fernandinho his been a fantastic servant, he's just below our legends IMO and personally like I'd like to see him stay. I don't think he will though.

He’s right up there amongst the Big 6.

Yaya
Kun
de Bruyne
Fernandinho
DSilva
Kompany

That'd make an interesting debate, actually. For me, he's earned his place alongside them. Not going to argue with you, though.

True an interesting debate.

Think the big 3 are legends. Could have been 4 but Yaya off the pitch was a d.

Then next level below this. Zab, Fern. Maybe sneak Hart in.

Then current players who could join those 2 lists when finished with City. KDB definitely and probably Sterling and Ederson.

I don't think Zab is quite in Fern's 'league' tbh, despite being a great man who will always be adored by us.

Prerequisite has to be keeping a world class level for a sustained period of time (I'd say five seasons minimum). I don't think Zab quite achieved that, whereas the others including Fernandinho were or still are amongst the best in their respective positions over at least that time period whilst playing for us.

Atm I think Fern is probably in the same tier as KDB and Yaya, which is one below the Kun Merl and Vinnie triumvirate.

He still looks like one of the fittest players at the club. If you were new to football and didn’t know how old any players were, you’d watch Fernandinho and think he was late 20s.

On his day he’s still the best defensive mid in the world.
A lot of people don't understand there can be huge difference in someone's chronological age and their Physiological/Biological age mate (which you know already possibly) Fern is an elite athlete in that respect (as is Kyle Walker).
To the trained eye, yes Fern has lost just that little bit, I can see that, and it will take him a little longer to recover than before, but he's still a giant and good for another two years (and even then, he'll still be one of the best out there), some people just get lucky with genetics, Fern is one of them.

Have to disagree with you there mate, Fern has been the foundation on which those players were able to show off their unique talents, No Fern, and it drastically reduced their effectiveness.

I agree that Zab was not as good a player as the others. But if you use that criteria then Yaya IMO should be seen as at least equal arguably better than S.K.A. (we need a name for them btw).

A club legend Is not soley based on playing ability.

If he went Italy he could play for 3 more seasons
I think that's the problem. He could negotiate a nice contract in Italy, 2 years with a 1 year option, in a league that will allow him to get plenty of game time with a CL club and continue to perform at his best. He's definitely worth another season with us but it would be as Club Captain, back up to Rodri and mentor to the young lads followed, hopefully, by a couple of seasons in the MLS at NYC. The question is what option does he prefer.
