Fernandinho

This is the manager talking, hes not in charge of the books. If we put in a 27m bid for a soon to be 28 year old defensive mid. I just dont see how they say no, and cant see how the player doesn't want to come play in England either. This is just another case of a manager trying to steal the spotlight with crazy quotes.

Quite a different story...

Will this be a 500 page mega-thread by the time he signs? :)

I'd be very happy with Fernandinho. £23 mill is slightly expensive for a 28 year old however he is exactly what we need! Thought we'd go in for a younger mobile midfielder such as Kondogbia but Fernandingo is the full package. Plays just in front of the defence and everything goes through him at Shaktar. Very mobile, great with both feet and loves a pass.

For all you doubters....<a class="postlink" href="http://www.metacafe.com/watch/9619820/fernandinho_vs_chelsea_a/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.metacafe.com/watch/9619820/f ... chelsea_a/</a>

i'm usually not too taken by a player who manages to look a star in a YouTube highlight package... but this was an entire game (from a tournament which we have underperformed in) where he looks very good against very tough opposition.

he is at an age (27) where he is coming into the top of his abilities which, imo, suits us better than going with youth or a promising young starlet. we need to challenge for the title in a more determined manner next season and we don't have time for on the job training. if this means that we keep a player for 3 instead of potentially 7 seasons, so be it.

he also seems (correct me if i'm wrong) to be that sort of midfielder that RM has been after in De Rossi or Modric for the last two years. that deep-lying playmaker type.

at first i was skeptical but only because of his nationality... i'll trust our scouts and player personnel department that if this is their man, i'm pleased if they sign him.

omg, I hope this doesn't start dragging out, need to get the signings in quickly. C'mon Shakhtar, be easy with us please.

I agree with your analysis.
Fernandinho is more of a box to box player ala Ramires, Rodwell. Vidal, Boateng(kevin prince), schweinsteiger, Essien, Torsten Frings
He can thread a pass though and is equally great defensively but he ain't no pirlo as regards to passing
De Rossi is a traditional Dm now, he joins up in attack when he can but he mostly sits back and breaks up play now and has great passing range like deep lying play maker. He has some qualities of a box to box player but would not be effective due to his diminishing pace and mobility

Well was it Marwoods fault last time around ? ;) Same old City if you are to believe that headline.

WTF!

I though Di Marzio, who broke this news, is usually spot on about these things and basically said this was a done deal... now Shakhtar's manager comes out and says he will cost 50M? and that we're a step down ... (total C9nt by the way) ... Did Di Marzio jump the gun or something?!

Fernandinho off Paulinho on!

February stories are in vogue

Ummm there are some quotes it seems about this 50m story from the Shakthar manager

@RorySmithTimes
Some quotes from Mircea Lucescu on Fernandinho and #mcfc, with thanks to the lovely @Aleeeext, coming up...

@RorySmithTimes
Lucescu: "If City pay 50m euros, they can have him. If someone pays that amount, he will leave. If not, it is almost impossible."

And even more, what a fooking cnut!

@RorySmithTimes
More Lucescu: "If a stronger team comes in, I'll do everything possible to help (the deal). But City at the moment not at Shakhtar's level."

Hahaha bloody hell what a c.nt! Hate it when people try and disrespect the club like that. And 50m seriously? Get a grip Lucescu..

And yet if we offered Lucescu the City job tomorrow he'd pay for his own flight.
