He's deceptively strong and deceptively quick , also very resilient . Always looking to get involved and covered every blade of grass . Superb range of passing and now he's opened his goalscoring account l'm sure he'll add to it regularly .
We've got a gem here and starting to look like a bargain .
Even kisses the badge like he means it !

The dejong comparison has obviously been blown out of the water , a more valid one is with Paulinho and l know which one l'd have by far .

Great video, and thanks for sharing that, so much that is good, and that you managed 9 minutes of highlights of 1 player, more than motd did on a whole match that finished 6-3.

Best thing of all for me, is that he plays football honestly, and with a huge smile on his face, just like he's playing in the park with his mates.

Lol Nige ain't fit to lace Fern's boots. Nige offered nothing going forward and due to his immobility was pretty hopeless in a 2 man midfield. In a 2 man midfield Javi Garcia is a better player to compare de Jong to. Obviously I think de Jong is better than Garcia but it's a much closer comparison, especially in a 2 man midfield as Garcia and de Jong are both severely limited players incapable of playing in there whereas Fernandinho has got the lot, and not just the mobility required but much more. Nige was pivotal in the Fa cup season at that stage of our development in a 3 man midfield, the reality was we'd outgrown him as early as that very summer when Nasri and Aguero were brought in and Mancini went for it with Gaz Baz and Yaya as centre mids. de Jong had very little to offer but there's still a lot of de Jong fans who are blind to this for numerous reasons, the better ones of which are that he was an important player for us for some time, on his day in the right system an exceptional defensive midfielder who gave his all with some inspirational performances for City as well as being a big character and a top bloke. But please, let's face up to reality here and not let anything else cloud judgement

I find this funny, because when i talk to people it seems like they notice other attributes then what i normaly would say is his best attributes. This guy is the core of what a modern defensive midfielder is, yes is is strong for his build, and fast but most of all, i find his ability to position himself as his best quality. I counted 14 interceptions in that clip, 14 !
That means he broke up 14 of arsenals attack and best of all, started 14 attacks.

Now a good tackle once in a while is greate, but it often doesnt lead to a counter, where as an interception caughts the opposite team moving in the wrong direction, and most time outnumbered. His ability to read the game also can be seen in his offensive nature, where at 06:05, 07:30 and 08.43 he moves to areas where the defenders has to make a choice of who they wanna try and cover, and his decision on should he shoot or pass lies with the opposite defender. That leads to good decision making almost every time.

He is extremly unselfish also, which besides all of his other greate attributes, like speed, dribling, shooting, cutting passes, changing game tempoes, athetitism and so many others puts him above yaya hands down in my opinion.

I hope he's fit and rested for the Barca game. He's going to be trying to get into that world cup squad like you wouldn't believe. He's going to be key to not only breaking up their attacks but making sure we can start and execute our counters quickly.

Good post sir, and good observations, I'm not sure that a comparison with Yaya is necessary as they are very different players, with a different skill set, and physique, but whoever's idea it was to put these two together in the same side, with Silva, and Nasri too, needs a huge pat on the back. If we can play the four for the majority of league games we will finish well ahead of anyone else imho.

I said before Saturday that Fernandihno was rapidly becoming my favourite City player, he only strengthened that against arsenal, not bad for someone who thought he might be struggle in the PL after 4 games.

The yaya comparison isn't meant as an insult to yaya but more of an appraisal to Fernandinho. I know they both play different role in the team, even thou they both play defensive midfielders. yaya's passing accuracy is unhead off and unmatched in the last few seasons. But if one of them got injured for a period, i would miss not seeing Fernandinho on the team sheet more then yaya, that's how important i feel he has become. That and also because yaya's laziness to trap back currently really gets on my nerve, a winger should never start to cover a defensive midfielders duties.

l never criticised Fernandinho but early doors l was mildly concerned about what he was going to bring to the table and how much he was going to influence the outcome of games .
Also the fact that he did cost a cool 30 mil raised everyones expectation levels .

l now think he is the real deal and an absolute revelation . One of the first names on the teamsheet l would have thought .

He's combined Barry and De Jong into one player, plus a good bit extra on top, is the best way I can think to describe him. He is almost a complete midfield in one player, which is no bad thing when you have 3 or 4 others alongside you as well, especially with the skills ours have.

Always boggled my mind how many blues overrated Nige. That said, I think much of it was a reaction to the witch hunt he suffered after the World Cup, and then breaking Ben Arfa's leg.
