Nobody was good today, so I can't be too hard on Fernandinho. The only bright spots were the two goals and Silva's assist. Everyone was meh.

i know its only the second game of the season but 30m? looks like a 10m player to me, passing was shocking at times, daylight robbery for me! ill give him a chance though but still think we would of got the better deal if we went for paulinho instead.

agreed, at times his passing was woeful, but give the lad sometime to bed in, although imo he shouldnt need time to get upto speed, jury is still out for me

He reminded me today of Gelson Fernandes.

But its early days and a bit early to make a definitive judgement.

I've thought that a few times (gulp) lol....like you say, early days.

Our midfield has never looked strong since we let De Jong leave , Fernandinho isnt the answer , would rather see Milner given a centre midfield place , he was excellent towards the end of last season and this pre-season , just hope Pellegrini picks his team on performances and not transfer fees.

I remember thinking this about De Jong in his first few games, and he turned out to be solid as a rock in the end,(and yes I do wish he was still with us),so jury still got to be out at moment on our latest Brazilian.....................

your right , too early to make a sensible judgement , but previous braziilians , robinho, elano,jo etc were not the success we had hoped for , we should sign more Argies , they never seem to disappoint , Zabs,Tevez,Aguero have all been good players.

Some incredible over reaction here - if Fernandinho is Gelson, who is Yaya? Negouai? Because he's been better than Yaya in both games. Tactically though, I think Pellegrini has a problem in some games with these two, as neither plays the role of enforcer in front of the back four, but that has already been discussed.

I think the only reason he's been better than Yaya is because Yaya has been playing deeper than he normally does and we all know yaya is a crappy defensive midfielder , I think Pellegrini should take a leaf from Mancini (at least just once) and play Yaya in the normal free role / advance midfield role where he is most comfortable and gives his best performance. Fernandinho doesn't have the strength or tenacity to force his way through a packed defensive wall like Yaya normally does . Yaya brings more to the team when played higher in the midfield. Teams would pack the bus against us more often this season and we would need to play Yaya in his normal advanced midfield position to break through the defensive wall.

I don't agree that Fern has been better than Yaya in both games and I think Fern looks like he has a bit to learn about the new league that he is playing in, which is understandable.

Like, the new manager, Fern will need some time to get up to speed.

I'd prefer to see him in a midfield three with Yaya and Rodwell. Thus far his general play has been tidy yet unspectacular.

sums it up nicely

can't see why he was worth the transfer fee yet but it is early days for him

Our midfield is excellent in theory.

The combination of Yaya sitting deep and Fern further forward looked awful today. Surely they are better in the reverse roles ? I like Fern's energy, speed to close down and skill. I would like to see him with Rodwell or Milner next to him and Yaya much further forward (as he clearly cba arsed defending on today's evidence).
