it makes perfect sense, let clubs know you're looking at other targets and hope their desire for the cash is great enough to cut a bit off their valuation.

Rubbbish. If we were in a position to buy the superior striker, then in our position we would. Thats why you cannot use this arguement to put pressure on another club. If the particular players are of a similar level then yes, but not when you are talking about a superior player. In your world you would go into a Nissan dealership and tell them that if you dont give you £500 of that Micra I am going down the road to by a BMW M5.

Like I said , totally illogical.

But you might go into the BM garage carrying an AMG brochure. Balotelli is younger, fitter and potentially more talented, but is still a risk as never played outside Italy and dodgy temprament. Him and Torres would be a gamble for different reasons, so it makes sense to try and play them off, just as the selling clubs are doing with potential buyers.

Where's this stuff about Torres coming for a Mill valued at £83, I didn't realise they were that skint.

Mikel Arteta in talks, Ireland and Onuoha offered together in swap deal. Was told Everton approached us.

Like Stevie , hate Everscum , but I have to say that would be very tempting

Too bloody right - would love this to happen

Would that be a straight swap? I'd take it in a heartbeat despite Arteta's age and slightly dodgy injury record. Think we could get at least 3-4 good seasons out of him if they aren't injury ravaged.

We don't need another RSC on our hands and we shouldn't take a risk on Arteta unless we are very confident that he won't be spending 2/3 of the season crocked and unavailable. He is ace, though, when he's fully fit, and it would almost be worth it just to witness the Evilton melt down it would provoke. Come on, Charmain Whatishisface, sell him to us behind Golum's back.

67 games in the last three seasons, and at 28 with the injuries he's suffered, I doubt it's going to get better. Personally, I'd pass; shame though, just the kind of playmaker we need (unless Silva can fulfil this role).
