Fernando vs Garcia

Well that puts this silly thread to bed.

An excellent performance showcasing exactly the reason he was purchased.

He doesn't look too shabby alongside Dinho does he.....?

Showed last night why we wanted him. A top player and a big upgrade on Javi.

But but but Garcia was so good in the air and he could play centre back. ;)

Wasn't convinced about Fernando couple of weeks ago but now produced a very good performance, clearly big upgrade on Garcia. Garcia is dogshit compared to Fernando. Garcia was hopeless, every player sprinted past him like he wasn't there.

Where's Marvin? Who is Garcia's brother surely?

Fernando is a country mile better than RSJ spined Garcia who runs like a pensioner. Was it Watford we played who destroyed him time and again?

Harsh.

Whilst he clearly wasn't the greatest player, his performances toward the end of last season won us the league. Same can be said about Dzeko.

Starting at Hull away playing CB for 80 mins, we gained crucial points with him shoring things up.

Calling him hopeless is overly harsh and disrespectful to a player that played a key role in the title win and always gave his best, even if at times it wasn't up the the level needed.

Disrespectful or not, Fernando is ten times the player Garcia was. We are much better with Fernando in the team than Garcia, struggled against Watford. Yes, he gave his all but I didn't say he didn't, simply wasn't up to it at the highest level.

Garcia was hopeless at CL level, did OK job against lower league opposition in PL. Expected bit more from £16 million player.

Don't think there's any need to have a go at Garcia whilst bigging up Fernando. Last night showed us that Fernando is going to be a great addition for the season with the power and energy levels needed for us to be able to play the way MP wants us to.
Garcia was never going to be that player but by the end of last year he'd proved a valuable squad player when needed the most.

Fernando is clearly the better of the two, and the main difference is Fernando's increased mobility. He's quicker across the ground than Garcia, which allows him to cover more space, close players downb, and snuff out potential danger far vmore efficiently. He's also better on the ball, Garcia was one of the main culprits, in my mind, for slowing down our buildup play and allowing the opposition to get set into their defensive shape. He dwelt on the ball too long, and his passes were invariably backwards or sideways, Fernando dwells on the ball a little too much for my liking too, but his passes are more direct and attacking than Garcia's were.

No surprise that Fernando is finally starting to look a very good player now he's in his proper role, defending and destroying and giving it simple. Playing him alongside Yaya in a 442 a few weeks ago was just silly.
