Ferran Torres | Signs for Barcelona (see main forum)

Probably a mixture of home grown rules, limited amount of English players actually good enough and also mostly every single prem club has more money in the bank than the Spaniards excluding Real combined because of TV rights etc.

We paid £20m for Torres and 20m for David Silva because Valencia were on their arse, that is a bit of a discount no?

Surely people don't really believe that Txiki is doing some sort of under the table discount to Barca here. Maybe Txiki put Ferran in his luggage when they went to see Sergio last week?
Barca are going to get away with paying nothing!!!

If it goes through at 50/60m it is more than double what we paid initially. Forget this "mystical" figure that some are putting on his head, it doesn't exist. He is in the middle of a long term injury, is agitating for a move it seems and has the chance to lead the line for Barcelona so its all piling up.

The club are going to do what they see best and that will be that, I am sure when we get Haaland or Vlahovic nobody will be arsed about Torres bagging in the Europa for Barcelona next season.

Agree with everything, and I love how u've done a reverse Barcelona mouthpiece and crept from 40m to 50/60m in 3 posts. Getting there mate.

Basically because he hasn't denied wanting to leave. And neither has Pep.

Whether he is open to stay or not, he is under contract for 3.5 more years, do he stays. Unless Barcelona tempt us with an appropriate transfer fee. Which different media outlets will say different things about but really nobody knows.
If he is open to both stay or leave, why would he comment on transfer rumors before anything is done? Seems like a pretty stupid thing to do for a player?

Dont disagree for a second. Just saying, that is why he is assumed to be keen on leaving.

Not saying you are wrong, but do we have any reliable source saying he really is agitating for a move, or are we all just believing Catalan media, perhaps the least trustworthy news outlet in the world, when they say this? Its a huge difference between being open to a move, or agitating for it. At least to me. I assume I must have missed something?

If he is not, I cant really see any reason to accept a €45M bid since he could still do a job for us right now, have a lot of potential and several years left on his contract. Its not like his value would drop if we would keep him another 18 months, he is a 21 year old regular starter for Spain. Just last season he had a considerably better goal/min ratio than Vlahovic, if you exclude penalties.

If he is forcing his way out, well that's another story. F*ck him then and take whatever money we can get:)
I think there was some Gerard Romero tweets who I believe is fairly reliable, you are correct though it is a lot of catalan media pushing this.

I just think it speaks volumes that someone like Sam Lee, Jack Gaughan and so forth haven't shut this down which just makes me think there is something there.

It's not about what he gives us right now. While injured. It is about what he will give us over the length of his contract.

I don't disagree with having more than 70m to spend, maybe, maybe not. With raz and mahrez also needing replaced soon though, going extra on Torres is not needed.

No issue with him being sold at all. Issue with it being for below what players of his quality go for in today's market.

And why does it matter to anyone, as the original question asked? I mean, why does it matter to anyone if we win a trophy, or 4, or none really?
But you’re essentially expecting to be able to sell a player for the same amount we’d have to buy them for, which just isnt realistic in my mind.

Push for as much as you can by all means but we’ll never get as much.

I wasnt calling anyone out specifically but the stick txiki/others get from parts of the wider forum for “not getting market value” is a fantasy. Theres no such thing and what we can sell for is not changing as long as we’re at the top of the foodchain. We’re essentially selling scraps and expecting someone to pay finished product fees.

I agree, there will be an issue if we lose torres, sterling and mahrez in quick succession.

Why is it not realistic, when he is a valuable member of the squad and we should have no real desire to sell? Its not exactly Mendy we are trying to get rid of here, its a young attacker who just a few months ago was close to starting in the CL final, and a player we have invested not only money, but also time in to be a part of the future of our club? But what we paid for him is irrelevant, its what it would cost us to replace him that matters. As long as he is not trying to force his way out, and his presence here is starting to do more harm than good (which we have no evidence of at all), why on earth would we sell him for a less than it would cost us to get another player of his standard?
If we go to Juventus and say we want to sign Chiesa, and then offer 40M, they would tell us to fuck off no matter if Chiesa wants to join us or not.

So....
We are:
Solvent and profit making.
Have the best squad in world football.
Spent about the same as United in transfers.
Pay same sort of wages as United and Liverpool.
Have fraction of debt of United or Chelsea.
Have better viability than Barcelona or Real....
Have won cups, titles and trophies by the dozen ....
BUT.... our finance guys and player sales/ purchasers are clueless...
Just saying....

I would agree with this but the one mitigating factor is we have a genius of a manager who has papered over some cracks(LB/CF etc)
