Even if you think his contribution warrants 70m and we get less, that also doesn’t matter. We have more than 70m to spend if we want to. The books are balanced. Cash in transfers doesn’t need to be balanced. Sell Torres for £45m. Book a tidy £30m accouting profit plus wage savings and reinvest.

Assuming we sign a striker, which by all accounts seems to be our plan whatever happens with Torres, not sure we'd have to replace him at all tbh. Lot of players in his position already and there's palmer floating about.

It's not about what he gives us right now. While injured. It is about what he will give us over the length of his contract.

I don't disagree with having more than 70m to spend, maybe, maybe not. With raz and mahrez also needing replaced soon though, going extra on Torres is not needed.

No issue with him being sold at all. Issue with it being for below what players of his quality go for in today's market.

And why does it matter to anyone, as the original question asked? I mean, why does it matter to anyone if we win a trophy, or 4, or none really?

It's not about what he gives us right now. While injured.

Also, all the signs are that he was about to seriously push on in the CF role. He is banging them in for fun at international level, and even started the season well for us too, before picking up his injury. Last season he simply went through what all our attacking recruits under pep seem to in their initial 12 months.

Txiki literally is Director of Football, which means he is in charge of the footballing operations at the club. So of course he is going to be the one to be blamed. Im sure there are others too but Txiki is the figurehead of the footballing side.
