Fifa to clamp down on City and Chelsea business model

FIFA will impose a new limit from 2020/21 on how many players clubs can have out on loan after a new proposal was ratified.

After Chelsea (39), Manchester City (28) will be the Premier League club most impacted by this. [The Times]

Our loans to go from 28 to just 8 season after next.
So what are they supposed to do?

Go and get jobs on the tills in Primark while they wait to see if anyone will give them a contract?

This could lead to a lot of lads being lost to the sport

If they are sent out on loan until they either come good or have a good enough sell on value then they aren't benefiting from our facilities.

But they are. They benefit from the facilities until they have progressed and reached a standard to be of use to another side.

The premier league got rid of a lot of loans when the transfer window came in. If you can re-call them not subject to the transfer window it is a loan, if not it counts as a Temporary Transfer of the players registration rather than a loan.

Just a thought. Instead of hammering City at every opportunity have they considered hitting clubs several hundred million in the red?

There’s two key elements to this in my view.

One the one hand it’s an established revenue stream for many clubs & we’ve done it better than most. Our academy is now a profit centre first and foremost. What right have FIFA to say we can’t do that? What other industry involves participants being stopped from developing new models of business because they’re different to traditional models?

On the other hand we (and many other clubs) use the loan system because there isn’t an effective outlet for playing their academy products that prepares them properly for life as a full-time league professional. There’s no other industry where trainees or junior employees have so little support and are exposed to as much exploitation as elite young players are?

The EPPP academies should become regional hubs or centres of excellence, training players & coaches for the lower league clubs. But, as usual, the football authorities have shown how spectacularly ill-equipped they are to deal with the modern day game.

So basically any team can fall foul of this and fifa are putting potential future stars out of the game due to politics NOT sport. What a joke and embarrasment to football.
They are truely unfit to even take my bin out, without totally cocking that up.
Past shameful corruption in fifa will not stop future corruption.
Surely any energies should be spent on weeding out corruption rather than putting into place frankly ludicrous restrictions ( possibly needing votes - fifa and a vote - oh do me a favour).
Fifa only licence fa rules - now what if FA said erm nope you are not considered fit and proper ...
