Reading the Pep book,and it's not very often referred to as 4 at the back, it's either 3 +2 with 3 centre backs and a full back where one of the defenders ,usually the full back except Stones in the treble year is playing next to the 6 and covering the defence. Or 2 + 3 with 2 centre backs and 2 fullbacks where the 2 full backs play either side of the 6 and cover the defensive sides.
Both options open up with the addition of a player like Cambiaso to the centre backs we already have and Lewis.

There's a fair few ways to get Wirtz in this side if we want/need to and not lose stability.

Agreed. Can’t see it happening. I’d assume it’d mean that he’d take one of the positions up top of Foden, Haaland, Savinho or Marmoush which I don’t want/can’t see happening - unless he can play deeper but then doubt that too with Rodri and Nico.

And doubt he’d settle for a rotation role when he’d likely walk into any starting line up in Europe.

If he’s interested in going to a top team that’s the competition he’ll have to deal with. At Bayern he’s got the best chance of walking into the team and that explains why they’re not that good of a team anymore. At Madrid he’s got to compete with Bellingham or Guler. At City, Foden and Marmoush.

We’ve experienced similar with Haaland and Gvardiol.

I think what’ll happen is we’ll extend Kev for a another year and try our luck summer 2026, if Wirtz extends

That's exactly as I see it. Kev goes and we bring in one big name midfielder. Anyone else goes (Bernie, Grealish, Stones?) then we bring in a versatile player who can support or reinforce. Gundo can do player-coach stuff. Remarkable how better he looked with a proper defensive mid next to him. The four we've brought in already look like they've impacted the squad for the better. The surgery that needed to happen has happend imo. One or two more players in/out and we'll win a PL in the next two seasons.

I don’t think our ambitions are just for the PL. Having the likes of nunes, Philips and Kovacic (30+) in a squad will not get you European glory again.

Correct, I haven’t seen any indication he wants to come here

It is interesting to hear Jack Gaughan say we we are in for him. He was the first guy in the mainstream media to say we were in for Gvardiol. I assume his sources gave him some info. It’s strange this is coming out in February
