Phil is the poster boy for the club and its homegrown talent. The club will stand by him and rightly so. There’s no affiliation to other plays who come from different clubs, the signing either works out or it doesn’t and that’s fine. But with Phil is different, he’s like the clubs son.

Not saying I disagree, what I was saying is that many players have been moved on after playing consistently better than he has over the past year or two. Some would argue that paying someone probably around £300kpw to be a poster boy is insane. FWIW, I hope he gets back into the side and showing his best form soon.

This is positive as it shows the management team have faith that he can regain his form.

Obviously, with no idea how he feels about it himself, I hope he doesn’t go to the World Cup. From a fan’s perspective, I would think a good long Sunmer off would do him the world of good. But who knows?

Hopefully, whatever has hindered him over the last 18 months can be put behind him! It had crossed my mind that we might not renew his contract and he’d end up going to a lower level club or league.

You have to wonder how long people have been supporting us to call a player like Foden ‘deadwood’. I despair sometimes. Especially ones that have come through our academy.

I remember pre takeover convincing myself that the likes of Willo Flood and Stephen Jordan were going to be world beaters.
