Forum suggestions and feedback

Unfortunately the forum software doesn't do it by default, but you fairly easily quote multiple messages yourself:

Additionally, clicking the white arrow next to the username at the top of the quoted message takes you to the original post.

Ah that video explains it brilliantly but I believe most people right now don't get it

One of the recurring themes I get, both in person and by emails/PMs, is that there is too much negativity on the forum, and that some users are too aggressive/confrontational. It's something I'm looking to address, so any feedback on that welcomed too.
There is but we're utterly shite at the moment so of course there's a lot of negativity. The players are all lazy, overpaid, mercenary bastards and the manager's a senile old **** and if you think you're going to stop us saying it then you can think again. And I'll say that to your face you utter prick! But on the whole I think you're right.

Ha, smilies are not really for me. Nor are "likes" as such, but there may be other ways to show approval for a post rather than the existing "+1" posts which don't really add anything.

As mentioned though, this post doesn't need to be restricted to technical issues. Feedback on the way the site is administered or moderated are welcome too.

you've said that for about 3 years, it's always been the same. Whilst people continue to take the "well you said x, so that must mean you're a *beep* even though I haven't read or tried to understand the rest of your post" approach, then people are going to get "upset".

That being said, the forum could be more blue. Like the Tweet button at the bottom of the page, that looks nice, the forum should be more like that.

What happened to not being able to start a thread unless you have 100 posts? I think that should be brought back.
I also agree with SWP re: the quotes thing. Also, when I hover over the thread title I no longer get a preview of the original post.

Any sizeable community full of Men will have this issue. Just be thankful it's based online and not in some Social Club as I'm sure many of us would be dead or in Strangeways right now after some of the bickering that's gone on.

Maybe a newbie/child friendly subforum for Junior Blues... "The North Forum" would be always quiet, the odd groomer will attempt to gain entry but I'm sure ShowRic security can handle it.

But yea it's a community where anyone can voice their opinions, it's a recipe for all kinds of emotions.
If we had just won the Premier League, FA Cup and then the Chumps League everyone would be hugging and kissing on here... Well most people, except some whingebag complaining about the smoke in the South Stand bogs.
The Moderating/Administration seems good to me.

We tried that in the past. I put quite a bit of effort in getting it working as well to be fair and people went off their nut and said it ruined the forum, so Ric felt the time wasn't right and removed it.

Not that I'm bitter. You bunch of tossers.

But yeah I'd support its reintroduction.
Me too. So long as it doesn't post it on your Facebook timeline. Don't want me friends knowing I spend half my spare time on here

Too much negativity in what respect? Towards the team and manager? That's fairly warranted at the moment and I'm usually a very optimistic happy clapper.

Fucking damn right it is. @Ric, kindly let them know it's not MumsNet. This is a football forum, a large proportion of the members are male. We are playing shite with an absolute dullard in charge. Of course we won't be sitting round hand-in-hand singing Kumbaya.

@Ric, don't let the vocal minority influence the forum. If we're playing wank, we're playing wank. The forum has been sanitised enough over the years.

Of course people are fairly negative about the team at the moment, that's to be expected with the way we are playing. Constructive criticism is fine. The issue is more to do with overreactionary nonsense after a defeat. People calling the manager "an old ****", for instance, doesn't really add to the debate. Maybe negativity was the wrong word. It's more to do with respect, or rather the lack of it, towards the manager, players, and indeed fellow posters. Obviously it's a football forum so there are going to be strong, forthright views. It'd be a pretty dull place if there weren't. We're not trying to sanitise the forum, just want to encourage considered debate rather than users venting their spleen.
