For me, the reaction of Wenger and others to our loan of Lampard highlights so much more in a wider context of how many view our club
The attitude seems to be 'it involves city, we haven't seen it before, don't know much about it, don't quite understand it, must be dodgy, must be against FFP....' before they even know anything about it
I would be staggered if we ever take a player on loan from one of our 'other' clubs without paying wages in full as we know that UEFA would never accept it on any other basis
We aren't buying through one club to loan to another for all kinds of reasons.
We aren't dodging putting an upfront payment through MCFC by putting it through another club to then loan him in. Partly because lampard didn't cost a fee but again, partly because UEFA wouldn't let it pass. And because the other federations have rules too, especially MSL
As it happens, in the Lampard instance I suspect we didn't even plan it from the outset, not that it particularly matters whether we did or not
So why can't the wider world see that a player that was always moving on a free end of contract transfer will play for MCFC for a while during which time we will pay his salary then NYC for a while when they pay his salary ? Why can't they see there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Or is there seriously a view that we might only pay say half his wages whilst NYC pay the rest and save what over the 6 months ? Certainly significantly less than £1M. To avoid FFP ? Really ???????
