Fulham (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

Totally correct. It must have been a great game for a neutral but it was a bit too nervy for me when every point we drop seems very important. Liverpool winning earlier added extra pressure.
The fact that a very good Fulham side played out of their skin, we looked a bit leggy and still won the game shows our tough mentality.
You see I didn’t know, until I read your post, that the team from the wrong end of the East Lancs had even played today! Which is good really because I would have been concerned. I have had one of those days that just revolved around me getting to the game then home to watch Strictly and other things have not registered!!

It happens sometimes. Outside influences don’t impinge on me. :-)

Went for the first time in a few years today. Rico looked out of his depth and I never think he looks like a defender anyway, he’s still young enough though but I don’t think he’ll be with us forever. Bernardo should be in the middle.

I took 4 kids with me (hence why I don’t go and won’t be going again for a while), I told the older two I didn’t think we’d win and if we did it’d be by a goal… So I was expecting what happened, it could have gone very differently that result with better finishing from Fulham in the first half.

They were really dangerous but if you don’t score your chances you get nothing.
When the Fulham manager saw Rico & Bernie lining up our right hand side he must have wondered where Snow White and the other five were

Whilst I agree with what @paulchapo and @hammocity have said I can’t in all conscience say that we will or won’t win the PL this season. Partly because I’m hopeless at making predictions but mostly because I’m of the generation that is just so thankful when we win a game!! :-)

However one thing I will say and I am adamant about is that every single player on that pitch today both City and Fulham gave 100%. I was going to put City and the Southern Softies but I couldn’t bring myself to insult a team who came to give us a game and they honestly did give us a game.
I’m glad about that because we needed the ‘work out’. But I reiterate they all gave us a game to remember. It’s a long time since I came away from a game not convinced that we were head and shoulders above the opposing team.
Today Fulham played well BUT so did we. Not one of our players was ‘bad’ some, and I’m not naming names it isn’t fair, weren’t as good as usual but we got value for money today.

Thank you City. Thank you Fulham. I enjoyed that game. I never once thought we would lose but there were a couple of times I thought it might be a draw.

Apologies for the ramble. :-)
Great post Mrs EB, no apologies required, top post :-).

That was the best game Fulham have played this season. And Howe said publicly last week that Newcastle's game against us was the best they've played this season. That's what happens when you're the champions. It's a kind of compliment.
But we're still there, nicely tucked in. And I'll tell you what — we may not be quite firing, but both Arsenal and Liverpool have got cracks that are papered over to some extent. Interesting season. Any one of three could win it. No-one else has got a cat in hell's chance, in my opinion.

I loved it just before the end when Pep was so incensed he not only came out of his own technical area but right across and out of the opposition technical area! *rofl*

Luckily Marco Silva had gone off for a rest or something.

Did the referee give Pep a yellow card? We couldn’t make our minds up if it was Pep or one of the players. :-)

Lewis is very young, but he has talent and determination. Perhaps his best position will emerge over the next 18 months. Don’t panic!
Still trying to figure out what he did on Traore's first breakaway. He had position and the ball at his feet. Seemed like all he had to do was pass back to Ederson. He really effed that up. He gets too easily knocked off the ball and that's my biggest critique of him.

Thought Fulham were superb today… well done for the players in getting 3 points despite not being totally at it and looking tired

Can’t think of many sides that did a job on us the way fulham did today - holding their own for good spells of possession and relatively limited on the time wasting and play acting that we see so many others teams deploy in bucket loads

I only remember Rico getting rinsed once by Traore all game

Yet walker was completely rinsed within 5 mins

thought Rico did well overall

But We Lost on Pens..... So we lost in my book, Thats Jose talking when asked about his winning run at united
Maybe in your book, but As I said… officially it’s a draw. According to FIFA and IFAB. In any case, this 30 match unbeaten record is LEAGUE games.

Have Liverpool actually played anyone of note yet ?

Next week against Chelsea should be interested

A narrow hard fought win, which was to be expected: Fulham have continually improved under Marco Silva and have the pace, aggression and technical quality to cause plenty of teams, including us, problems but City’s quality remains several notches above and City won again.

The defending does need to improve. Giving up some chances on the counter when we commit so many forward is understandable but cocnedeing two goals when there are plenty of men back is not what we should see from these players.

With KDB out, I’d like to see Kova, Bernie and Phil as the midfield. At the moment I’d prefer Gundo to be coming off the bench: that’s where he has been most effective this season.

Pep is still looking for his best team this season and has not been helped by injuries and players needing to get back to their best.

I just hope City will get add a midfielder in January who has pace and aggression to go with the requisite technical ability to play for City. I also hope Echeverri is good enough to go straight into the squad.

Whatever issues City have at the moment, they remain unbeaten this season and have still only lost one competitive game this calendar year. Things could be worse.
Agree with all that.

Pity we dont have any players than can wing back really with this setup, have the width from players trying to run onto the ball rather than static and waiting for it, then having to stand the man up.

You are Wio and I claim my £5

I thought Kova away from his goals was poor. Feels like he's never in position when we're defending.

Might be judging him harshly but every time Fulham put a cross in I just kept thinking Rodri would have read that.
That’s a quite big deduction to scratch two goals off. And you expect to see him in defensive position every time the opponent break through? Man city will face the real problem once Kova pull his hamstring. Just One man cannot run the whole midfield no matter who he is.

Eccles Blue
Apparently Pep was yellow carded for applauding the referee after he yellow carded Ederson for “time wasting”
